Get John Slatter's Best Stocks You Can Buy 2007. It's updated every year. The first 10 pages go into mutual funds, diversification, and what investing is as well as what your goals should be.

Then you get 100 best stocks to buy along as the positives and negatives of each.

You can get this book for under $10 at Amazon or Ebay. And you can keep buying it every year because it only gets better with age. It's in its 10th year of print now. Go get it.

Also try:
Random Walk Down Wall Street
Beating The Dow (O'Higgins)
Anything by Warrenn Buffett or Paul O'Neil
Anything by Peter Lynch.

Stay away from books by Jack Welch, the guy is a total fraudulent idiot who rides the coattails of good workers/managers.

I would recommend a couple of things. First read "The Little Book that Beats the Market" - this is a great short book that will teach you the fundamentals of value investing. then see what the best investors are buying and selling at http://www.top10traders.com - this is a free site that lets you create a portfolio of stocks with $100,000 in "play" money. Each day the site ranks the best performing portfolios, so you can see how your picks perform compared to other investors. You can also read posts on investing from the best traders, as well as share your own investing ideas. There is also a charting feature , so you can see how your portfolio performs compared to the S&P 500.

Here are this month's best traders:

Good luck.

Start with "The Wealthy Barber" by Chilton. I know it's a weird title, but it's short, easy to read and I think it will really help.
