It can happen. The thing to remember is that you will have to meet the same qualifications--and that means getting a degree in special ed.

You will face some opposition from some people in the education profession--there is still a belief among many ofthem that people with disabilities don't make good teachers--in special education or elsewhere. But don't let that discourage you--there are thousands of teachers with disabilities in the US--in every branch and field of education (including myself!).

There is a long history of persons with disabilities teaching disabled children. In the 19th century both deaf and blind teachers taught in schools for children with these impairments. And in recent years, funding has become available to develop methods to ensure teachers with disabilities can teach effectively. If you do some searches using th e"advanced search" on Google (set the domain to ".edu" and/or ".org" you can find a lot of information. Good luck! :)

First of all was once the remark honestly a racial announcement or was once it approximately the incapacity that your son has (that calls for distinct ed)? I wasn't definite considering that the phrase clean might be a race or a incapacity (retarded, dull, something phrase). Anyway, first and main I could talk to the trainer approximately this. If the trainer is not going to do whatever approximately this then pass to the precept after which the superintendent. While repeatedly men and women are not inclined to quit a well trainer considering that of the present scarcity, trainer's aides are most of the time disposable. They are NOT required and do NOT need to have a measure in lots of states so they may be able to without problems get replaced. If you might have a trainer aide who's pronouncing any type of announcement that's terrible to scholars (and will end up this with a witness past simply your son) then it will have to now not be rough to do away with this character. I could advise that you simply pass by way of the entire steps to do away with the rubbish that could insult a scholar (any scholar, however particularly one in a distinct demands/ed elegance).

Depends on if you are able to pass your college entry exams to get into college, and then pass all your classes that are required to be able to teach special ed. The same would go for your boyfriend in testing to be a teacher`s aide. Never say never until you try. I admire your ambition. Good luck to the both of you.

This is an absolute possibility. I went to college with several kids who had special ed services in high school. They were all in my special ed program. They received accommodations for testing, such as lengthened time or alternate location, but did all of the same work I did. If you feel this is what you would like to do--go for it.

It most certainly could happen. You need to take the college courses needed to become a special ed teacher, then take the state tests to become certified. I think that growing up with unique needs and abilities would help you relate to your students. Good Luck!

i like how amanda l is trying to knock you for spelling special wrong and then she goes and spells is incorrectly.
way to remove all doubt that you're a mean spirited dumbass, amanda!

as for you, if you really want to do it, and work hard enough anything is possible. most colleges do have an office of special education where you can get some extra support, but it will not be like some of the services offered in jr high and high school. you need to be an advocate for yourself and never diminish yourself because of a disability.

well first you'll have to beable to spell it first... its "special" and yes you can become a speacial ed teacher. in college they have an office for speacial ed assistance and you can get help through deadlines and stuff like that. you also have to be tolarant of other speacial needed kids and learn how to be able to teacher them. My sisters friend was a sped in high school (like me) and she is now a sped assistant teacher. actually most sped teachers were usually a sped at one piont of time in their life. go and ask yours i'm sure they were.
