Some just mention the slightest idea, or others just bring it up to them, because there has been alot of talk on capitol hill that they may run. After that the bashing starts. They bring out information that was just found out.....

Why don't they wait til the person says "i'm going to make a run for the white house" and to wait til its actually that time...to start everything?

Unfortunately, it's because enough American voters fall for these smear tactics. They work! So the politicians keep doing it. If we would ignore the smears, do our own research and make an informed, independent decision, they would stop doing it.

Its politics as usual. If you are considering running, you absolutely MUST discredit all your opponents as much as possible. The allegations don't have to be true because perception is reality in politics. That is why they always make such a big deal out of any verbal mistakes a politician makes ( and why their supporters make such a huge deal out of saying "it was a botched joke", ala John Kerry). People just have to have that nugget in the back of their mind when they are looking at the ballot. Sometimes it will change who they vote for because it just might be true after all.

Politics is a tough game, even if you think about running the attacks start. If the potential candidates cannot stand to to this it is for their own good. It is possible that people may attack the US President, if you are not ready for a tough campaign you will certainly not be ready for that

Because they want to lower voter confidence in these people and scare them into not running. Politics are a dirty, dirty thing.
