After further thought on this, I will disagree with the premise, and withdraw my earlier comments (but will leave them at the bottom).

First, normal human body temperature is 36-37.5°C (96.8-99.5°F). People who live in warm climates are generally only slightly warmer. The low range is about a quarter of a degree higher. The high range stays the same at 37.5°C or 99.5°F.

One thing to cosider is that the human body temperature varies during the day. It it coldest at night while we sleep, and may take 4 to 5 hours for our bodies to reach the maximum temperature, which is then maintained during working hours. It then declines again after dinner and sunset. This temperature difference could be a 1.5°C (or 2.5°F).

Another factor is age. Babies are warmer than toddlers, who are warmer than teenagers, who are warmer than adults. This trends continues into the 40's and then reverses. By the time people are in their 80's, they are as warm as when they were babies.

Yet another factor is size. Big people are cooler than small people. This trend may explain some of the body temperature differences between children and adults. If men are heavier than women, they should be cooler. Large animals loses less heat so its internal temperature doesn't need to be as hot as smaller animals.

Now, men do tend to have less fat, so they lose heat faster. They may FEEL warm to the touch of a woman's insulated skin, but deep inside, they are about as warm as your inside.

Another factor among women is the mentrual cycle. After ovulation, the female basal body temperature increases by 0.45°C (0.9 °F). This elevated temperature is maintained throughout the luteal phase. During mentruation, the body temperature drops.

**** Earlier answer below is incorrect. Body temperature and metabolism is regulated by the thyroid hormones. Testosterone regulates human aggression and sex drive.****

Testosterone makes male metabolism higher than women's. We also die faster. The brighter candle burns out faster. We also stress out more. The late anthropologist, Ashley Montagu, wrote "The Natural Superiority of Women" -- the key word is "natural", meaning physiological and psychological. Women are made to last longer than men. Women are healthier than men. Men tend to be extreme. Men die of heart attacks much more often. We become violent and kill each other more frequently. Men are a "flash in the pants". Women are moderates.

It's a physical difference. Because men have had to work outside in all weathers, their circulation pushes blood to the extremities (fingers, toes) to keep things warm. Because a woman's evolutionary priority is child-bearing, the extremities are not as important as keeping the core body (including the womb) warm. That's why women are colder in the arms and legs and more prone to frostbite in extreme cold. Not a thing a woman can do about it. We're built that way.

women generally have more fat then men due to childbearing purposes.

men have higher metabolism rates than women and thus are generally warmer than women, though not by much. different testosterone levels in the male and female bodies account for the difference in metabolism rates.

Well, I'll answer as best I can. The male body is, on average, larger than that of a female. Having the extra body mass would serve as insulation for the inner parts of the body such as the heart, lungs, etc. Also, having more mass, males also would have more blood, also accounting for the mysterious heat boost.

I hope that clears things up for you.

I can't explain. but I am a WARM guy, I mean seriously. Everyone points it out to me, even people who just shake my hand say I'm so warm. I'm a great thing to have in a bed. Usually people call and ask me to sit in their bed for a while, and then when it gets toasty they send me home.

*sigh* at least I can say I've been in lots of people's beds!

men need to do more work than women so men will respirate and produce more energy than women and producing more energy means more heat

Men usually have more fat than women. Fat is an insulator and therefore men usually hold in more heat.

I think that's why, anyway.
