hello all
i was curious as to what i would have to do to become a librarian (as in classes and such)

You could major in Library Science, but that's not a requirement. You do have to get your masters in Library and Information Science, though. In the mean time, at least major in something that requires you to do a lot of research, as this is the primary job of a librarian. History and English are probably best for this.

Librarians specialize in particular areas, so the type of librarian you want to be should determine what your undergraduate major is and which graduate program you choose. For instance, if you want to be a school librarian you would benefit from taking some education courses. If you want to work in an archive you should take history courses. Most graduate library science programs specialize in preparing people for certain types of libraries. So, while the University of Washington has a very good library science program, its not the best choice if you want to be an archivist because they don't specialize in that area. Most library science programs are now library and information science programs, so you will need to be computer literate no matter what your specialization. Some specialized libraries now require a masters in library science and a masters in their subject field, so that is something else to keep in mind as you train for this field.
