Is there some superstitious belief or "unwritten rule" as to why people do not paint their houses black? I've seen plenty of white houses that have been trimmed in black, but I have yet to see an entirely black house (and I am fairly well-travelled). Any guesses?

the church of satan (anton levay) is black... it's in california (i think), that's the only one i know of.... i have my living room black with fuchsia trim, but can't paint the outside (apartment buliding). and yeah everyone associates black with evil, so that's most likely why they don't paint them that color... i hate white houses, so bland.... if i had a house i'd paint it purple with black trim.. that would look great!

Maybe because it would get too hot in the summer?...since black would absorb the sun's heat. If that was the reason, though, I'd think it would be a good idea for places that have a cold climate all year.

Great point. I can't imagine it just being b/c it gets hot in the summer - then why wouldn't cold climates paint their homes black. I would so paint my house black. Great question

I would attribute it mostly to vague superstitions about the color black, but also because it would attract a lot of heat in the summer. There is a fantastic black house in Olympia, WA.

Black is real hard to paint over, and I would imagine its hot in the summer

there's one down the street and around the corner on that block where those dogs roam by that building across from the park beside the store where the kids go after school.

Maybe this superstitous country beleives in the goddamn propaganda that rules this nation. *sigh* I plan to have a big house in a preppy neighborhood and paint it all black when i grow older. lol.
