Ringo once explained that his job was to establish the tempo, not to be louder than the band. Ringo Starr is probably the best I have ever seen or heard at complimenting the rest of the band, and making the music right. But, I also really like Bun E. Carlos of Cheap Trick, and Alan White of Yes.

i say not. Although he was certainly good in the studio on those Beatle albums.
Even to this day, still hard to argue that Buddy Rich wasn't the "best" drummer. check him out on youtube.
loads of drummers "better" than Ringo. Steve Gadd, Bernard Purdie, Jack Dejohnette, ?uestlove, Keith Carlock, Dennis Chambers, Terry bozzio, Billy Cobham, Phil Rudd, Mic Fleetwood, Airto, Tony Williams, Paul Motian, Elvin Jones, Art Blakey, Vinny Coliauta (sp?), Antonio Sanchez, Bill Stewart, Jorge Rossy, John Bonham. ... the list goes on

Rick Allen from Def Leppard. How can you argue with a drummer that has only one arm? I love the Beatles, and Ringo is underrated, but I take Rick Allen as my pick. Alex Van Halen a close second.
