I have 4 slots and I have:
2 - 1 GB DDR2 PC2 5100 Installed right now. According to crucial.com

If I add 1 - 512mb DDR2 PC2 5100
and
If I add 1 - 256mb DDR2 PC2 3200

Then all the ram will only run at PC2 3200?

And that is slower right?

So I should only add the 512mb right?

Thanks in advance

Yes, that's right.

"So I should only add the 512mb right? "
Wait. How much memory does your computer need? Do you see it using more than 512 MB memory? Because, if your computer does need more memory, it *will* take it. Because you have no more RAM, it will use the disk. And that is _really_ slow.

The thing is, you have 2 1GB DIMMS already, meaning a total of 2 GB, you're adding 512 more. For 2GB+512MB = a lot. What exactly are you doing with this computer?

Correct , just add the 512MB stick, don't touch the other one.

Yeah that's fine just add the 512MB stick, and you will have 2.5GB of RAM.

Get the Vista run it and use it, get a feel for it , then decide if you will add more RAM, like the vendor suggested.

I tested the RC1 release of Vista and it ran very well on my pc with 1GB of RAM.

Before adding anything you should know if you are running your ram chips in dual channel or single channel configeration.

Adding lower frequency ram will result in all installed ram running at the speed of the slowest one installed.

Kingston ValueRam is the best. It is not fail, ever. Lifetime warranty comes with all of the RAM. The worst RAM are: Micron, Infineon, Hynix and Samsung.
