It is the NBA's developmental or minor league. It's where players who aren;t good enough to be in the NBA go to get better. It has two main purposes; it keeps the players who wouldn't be in the NBA from going to Europe and signing contracts which would keep them out of NBA teams hands for a number of years, and it makes the NBA better by having the developmental league players actually playing games and getting better as opposed to sitting on the bench for years like Darko Milicic. He would've been the perfect example of a guy who would've been sent to the D League.

It stands for the development league. It's basically all the younger and less talented players are. It's like the nba, but they're junker. Their talent is way lower and nobody really gives a damn. However, it does help players improve and possibly play in the nba. One of them includes Raja Bell who is one of the best teams, the Phoenix Suns, and is starting SG.
