combination lock to lab drawer...?

I was just wondering how to open a regular combination lock, the combination is 31-05-35....i can't seem to open it for the life of me...

Spin it clockwise several turns and stop on 31. Then turn it counterclockwise for only part of a turn and stop on 5. Finally turn it clockwise again and stop on 35. Pull open the lock.

Spin it to the right several times. Then try 31 left, 05 right and 35 left. If that doesn't do it spin it to the left several times then 31 right, o5 left and 35 right. One of them should work
