Castor oil isn't necessarily dangerous, but it is very gross to the taste and can give you severe diarrhea. And that is one thing that I'm sure you don't want happening while your trying to have your baby too.

The main thing I do want to say is that this is your body and your baby and you don't *have* to do anything your dr tells you do. You are the one paying him- not the other way around.

I suggest taking some quiet time with just you and your baby and ask her (or him) why she's not coming. Tell her that she is loved and wanted and that you are waiting for her and you can't wait to meet her.
Think about your life situation right now- is there anything that is stressing you out or feels undone? Do you feel ready for baby to come?
All those mental aspects can play a huge part in getting labor to start.

One thing that you haven't mentioned trying is acupuncture or acupressure. Find an acupuncturist in your area that deals specifically with women and their issues. They'd be likely to be able to stimulate the points that are related to labor- or at least help you relax so you can get there on your own.
Acupressure is similar to acupuncture but it doesn't use needles- just pressure, so if you have an aversion to needles you can do that.

Here is some additional info I've passed along before:
Try curb walking to help bring on labor
Walk along a curb, one leg up on the curb and the other one in the gutter, then turn around and go the other way.

Cumin seed tea recipe: 1 Tbsp. cumin seed to one cup of boiling water...let steep for 5 minutes and drink tea. Not to exceed (1 number) cups of tea per (hour/day).

Clary Sage Oil-This is an essential oil that can cause strong contractions. Mix 10-15 drops of the oil with a carrier oil such as Almond oil. Rub the oil on your hands and just massage in. You can do it for as long as you'd like.
Nipple stimulation- Fifteen minutes on each side for an hour for a total of 3 hours a day.

·Take a ride down a bumpy road
·Eat a lobster dinner
·Take a nice warm bath with rose scented bath bubbles, shampoos etc.
·Eat very spicy foods.
·Lots of sex, it's suppose to ripen the cervix
·Walk, walk, walk, walk, walk

Evening Primrose Oil-This comes in a capsule similar looking to vitamin E. This is not an herb to induce your labor but to help ripen your cervix and make your labor faster. You can take by mouth, up to 5 a day after 38 weeks of pregnancy or use as a suppository near the cervix to help it ripen. Do not use as a suppository if your water has broken.

Acupressure Points: On the fleshy part of hand, in between your thumb and pointer finger, squeeze hard for about 30 seconds, then release for 3 seconds and repeat. As you do it, think about your baby, labor, or contractions.

On the inside of the leg, about 3-4 finger widths above the ankle is another point. You know you’ve found it because it will hurt when you press on it. Press it hard for 30 seconds, then release for 3 seconds and repeat. Continue until contractions are regular. If contractions stop after you’ve stopped the pressure, begin again.

Good luck, I hope everything works out for you.

Check out the www.midwiferytoday.com forums for info on castor oil. My own (very experienced) midwife says that castor oil (not CASTROL like you out in cars!!!) will only work if your body is ready. I believe it works better if you've already begun to dilate. Research it well before trying it, and definitely consult your OB. By the way, nipple stimulation can be dangerous, as well- because it can bring on sudden and strong contractions.

Maybe your dates are off and you aren't really that far along. It's unusual, but not unheard of, for a pregnancy to go past 42 weeks. Seriously. Has your OB put you on the fetal monitor to make sure the baby was moving okay, etc? If so, and everything is fine, then relax.

Relax- that's my last sentiment. Your stress level could be preventing your body from doing what it needs to do to prepare itself to birth your baby. I understand that you don't want to be induced, but whether you go that way, or naturally, being a big ball of stress will be a detriment.

All the luck in the world to you and your baby!

You should really let the doctor induce you if ur that late! My boys were both 5 days late and the placenta was already turning Grey. I guess it turns Grey when it's starting to not work. Being induced isn't that bad. Also if you are getting an epidural and you're being induced, you won't have to wait that long for the epi, because they usually order it in the beginning....at least that's what they did for my first son. If you want to try something in the meantime, I've heard raspberry leaf tea works good. Castrol oil is dangerous, it can dehydrate you.

If you are tired - rest. Just sleep and let go of trying to make it happen. Maybe you will relax and the baby will drop further and start labor. Seriously, it sounds like the only thing you haven't tired :-) Good luck! Little addition: Has your doctor done an ultrasound lately? Is there a way to find out whether the baby is in a good position? If he/she is not there are exercises and chiropractic measures that can help put the baby in position to begin labor. It is completely possible that he or she is just taking his time though. How far over due are you?

Most things (besides sex) that are actually proven to induce labor aren't safe at all. An induction isn't so bad. And besides, it doesn't matter how the baby comes into the world, as long as both baby and mommy come out of it safe and healthy.

You are corrcet for not using castor oil, it is just a laxative...nothing else! Call your OB and ask them to set up a induction fast, the reason I say that is because lets say your water breaks & you go to to the hospital (as you should ) and are not dialted & with in a few hours do not quickly proceed they will induce anyway! My water broke with 2 babies & was induced anyways!

I don't understand why people think that getting induced by a doctor is so much better or safer than trying to do things naturaly! (to the other answers..)

Try a birthing ball (if you havn't already) You can get them from wal-mart. Just sit on it and roll your hips around front to back side to side... It will help the baby drop and open your cervix. I used to sit on mine while watching tv...

Or you could try parsley tea, You just get dried parsley boil it and drain. Its not great but it isn't horrible. And it is very mild, it is not like castor oil or anything... Good Luck!! I hope you don't have to be induced!!!

Ive heard to walk up and down steps..which is kinda dangerous if you have a really big belly. But then theres also some laxatives you can take to bring on labor..but then Id be worried of pooping on the table...So theres two things ive heard if you eat them they will bring on your labor..Chineese food because of all the MSG's and Pineapple because it softens your cervix.

Sure its nice to do it when its natural but go get the doctor to induce you a.s.a.p im sure your babies health should be a bigger priority rather than having it when you want it to come naturally, leaving it over due could be a risk to the babies health
what matters more the baby or your wants?

Why would you do something that is dangerous and risk your baby's life?? just wait to go to the doctor for the inducement.
