Well, I'll won't lie to you, you may indeed mess up...And then you would not win. Or, you could choose not to compete in it...And then you would not win.
Or, you could compete and maybe even spell every single word right...And then you WOULD win.
So what I am saying is, by competing, you have a chance. By not competing, you have no chance. If it was me, I would allow myself the chance!
The truth is, all but one of the spellers is going to mess up at some point in the bee. Only one winner will come out on top. Just go out there, try to ignore any audience, and do your best to spell correctly. Good luck!

I would practice spelling and speaking in front of people, I think that is the best way to work through this problem. It is a very common problem, even very famous actors and actresses still have it, so don't think you are alone or that you can not over-come this! :-D
I would first start off spelling and speaking in front of close family and friends, which will built up your confidence, and then you can move on to larger groups or groups of people you may not know as well, maybe your mom or dad's co-workers, for practice.
Visualization is also a very powerful tool. If you picture yourself performing the way that you would like, over and over again in your mind, like playing a tape in your head where everything goes as you would like, and you can imagine yourself being totally relaxed and not scared while speaking, this will go a long way toward achieving the real thing. Good luck!

Concentrate on the words and their spelling, not on the people. If you are visual learner, "see" the words in front of you instead of the audience members. See each letter spelled out rather than think of the audience.
If you are an auditory learner, then "hear" the phonetics (sounds) of the words.
If you are more hands on, imagine moving Scrabble tiles or letter blocks int the correct spelling.
These tasks will help you spell the words and keep your mind off your stage fright.
Good luck!

specific, I won my college's Spelling Bee. even even with the undeniable fact that, i did no longer elect to flow to the State Spelling Bee (as I had something else i wanted to do with my kinfolk individuals at that ingredient incredibly than flow to the State Capital by myself with a school group), so I enable the lady who have been given right here in 2nd flow to the State Spelling Bee. interestingly, she finished 2nd indoors the State Spelling Bee.

you have to put yourself through it get over your fears, just dont look into the audience look at up the light and at the person who gives you the words you'll be fine thers nothing to worry about just dont think of people in the audience thats where you'll start to get scared. I hate being infront of people to but everything works out in the end =D

Find a spot on the back wall and don't look at the people. Look only at that spot.Take long deep breaths. Wear warm comfortable clothing.

the audience in their pants thing never works, but i've done many plays and musicals and this seems to work the best for me. don't look exactly at the audience. look inbetween thier heads, or stare at the back of the wall it will keep you more relaxed and focused

happened to me too. I just told the teacher that I was not in any way shape or form gonna get up in front of everybody. I told them they could flunk me if they wanted to. I told them I refuse to get up in front of people.
That was it. I didn't have to do it. Of course everybody made fun of me later but I didn't care. Sometimes ya gotta do what ya gotta do. Good luck.
