it sounds like you need to do a scandisk and a defrag if you are using windows check your hard drive space if there is not much space left it will slow down alot and do a virus scan one other thing since i work on computers check the fans on the unit it self make sure there not plugged up and the fans are running the last pc i worked on couldn't find a problem(program wise) then found that the cooling fans were plugged up and one was dead after cleaning the pc stopped acting slow and didn't hang up and use a program called ccleaner it is free and it will help empty the temp file and spybot for spyware and for a anti virus program i use avast it is free and it catches alot of malware to0. sorry so long but i hope it helps

You didn't write your system specification. It may be low on RAM. Also you should try to remove some useless start-up applications. Use a system maintenance tool such as system mechanic which will give a more comprehensive outlook of your system performance and security. Use NOD32 as anti-virus system, it is really low on RAM and provide best scanning options. Scan your system for viruses @ spy-ware. Have you installed Vista Transformation Pack? That also causes system hanging problem in most cases.

If your computer is not working properly while you are working on it, it could be a problem with device drivers, hardware or software.
