...smartest..? you do mean the intelligent right..?
i want to say that air is thought/ideas/cerebral. so generally speaking air signs are thinkers. they like to share them with others or be amused by them in their privacy/recreation.
but all signs have the ability to think and air signs also feel. so there is no one answer to this question even if you consider that aquarius is a break-through thought oriented sign/season. (inventive/innovative if a certain planet is high-lighted).
but there is too much weight placed upon ideas-intelligence in this world it is all relative. so as an aquarius i have to tell you that aquarius intelligence although often considered avant-garde as exemplified by some do not satisfy the entirety of human relationships. so....again. intelligence is relative. aries intelligence right through to pisces intelligence has valueability if it can serve a person and not offend nature and society. einstein was a pisces sun-sign. and there have been genius thinkers from all corners of the zodiac. because the sun-sign do not dictate intelligence. intelligence requires an emotional and a physical compliance for usefullness and productivity. smart is simple .. and the complex/complicated requires simplicity to be worth anything to humanity.
as for originality. it is really only usefull if it serves as inspiring for self and/or others but do not harm any natural living forces.
and to close here......nothing is new in the universe but able to be discovered and re-created.

Aquarius are the smartest of all the signs.
Air signs are thinkers in the zodiac. Gemini, Libra, and Aquarius.
Aquarians are humanitarians in the zodiac. The generally want to know everyone and everything. They are near genius levels, they are usually the inventors of the zodiac. They are more freedom loving than the Sagittarius, they love to know everything around them.

It's between Gemini and Virgo I think, even thought any sign has an advantage that others may lack. I personaly think Scorpios are very smart, Libras too when it comes to arguements or solving conflicts, Sagittarius can be pretty smart as well and Capricorns.

I would have to say Aries since I am one but i think that maybe Virgo seems like they are so smart and the libras.
Howeve, I don't think that the zodiac has anything to do with intelligence.

Definetly the virgo is the "most intelligent". Speaking from experience, we need to know and memorize everything, We are very analytical and love to read and learn. but I may be a little bias...
