There is absolutely a parallel world to the visible world.

Your mind.

Everything you know about the visible world, is put inside of your parallel world, and this is why your view of the parallel world, affects your opinion of the real world.

To fully enter it, you must completely understand your mind, and it is impossible to do that.

String Theory discusses the possibility of multiverses or parallel universes stating that if our whole perception were represented by a single string on a harp, then other realities resonating the other strings would only be perceived by us when those strings resonated our own. We are tuned to perceive one string alone but others resonate around us without being directly perceived. We see subatomic particles disappear and re-appear from we know not where yet which alludes to other worlds and similar particles co-existing in two places at once.

This may be an indication of other Realities but might just be distortions in spacetime with things slowing down or speeding up relative to our perception. If we could survive the Event Horizon we may see the strings merging in ways we cannot comprehend and may experience an alternate reality all together but this is just a hypothetical theory with no way to prove nor disprove it.

How about an imaginative logic to answer this great question......

Since everything has come from zero, everything at any point in time must also add up to zero. In our visible world, everything adds up and obviously the sum is huge rather than zero. Therefore, it makes sense to assume that there ought to be at least one parallel world that is not visible to us, which is like a shadow world which provides all the negative sides of whatever is there in our visible world. We can not enter that world because, over there would certainly be an opposite or negative of our own self which would attract us and the combining effect would eliminate or cancel out both the positive and negative of our self. If we manage and dare to enter that parallel world, we would lose our existence and turn to zero!!

Hope you would enjoy this flight of imagination and forget entering the parallel world for now.... that is, until we decode how to recreate our current self from zero.

I believe there is a parallel world to the visible world and that it is the intelligible- a 'mental' world.

This belief derives from Plato's concept of the Divided Line, where certain senses and schools of thought could be classed as superficial, where as others were more likely to deliver insight, truth etc because they were not impinged on by superficial concerns.

To progress from the lower reaches of the Divided Line from the Visible to the Intelligible, we have to learn not to be fooled into thinking that shadows are the whole substance of an object or idea and learn to overcome the shackles of familiarity and surface interpretation (as in the related parable of The Cave).

I gave kaplump a thumbs up, a good answer, but agree to disagree with knowing your own mind is impossible enough to step into that world, I believe I do know mine very well but it is not knowing your mind that is so much the key, it is being aware of your emotions and how they effect your mind, tuning into your self by thought and emotions.
The world I believe you speak of is where maybe I have seen. I can't say I have but it does explain what I share. I share what I see from my dreams, a time I journey via astral projection, or I believe this to be the way I see. I have always seen what I do but there is an amazingly thin line between the soul needing saved spiritually psychologically, and physically and mind taking you to a safe haven. Not only that but how we deal with troubled times, how we survive without allowing troubled times to change you, turn the soul sour because of others wrong doing toward you.
Maybe there will never be an explanation but for me, now those doors have been opened there is no closing them behind me because it is a one way path only-forward.
The parallel worlds of our day an' night, light an' dark awake an' asleep was the doorway for me, but the key was right inside of me.

There are some very good answers here. I would only add that it could be possible to experience parallel worlds through one's mind.

a mystical obstacle of converting particle into rays and back again would be useful.

lastly, your question is a loaded one or rather incomplete. I think you are notonly trying to find the consistent means of entering, but entering-experiencing-returning-recalling-and relating those experiences would be crucial areas of focus for this tryst.

Modern Physics currently accounts for approx. 11-24 dimensions and possible existance of other universes. Inorder for any hopes of passing through the "cracks" there must be first and abridgment between the universes. Current physics does not have an answer for this or even support a theory for inter dimensional transport. Assuming that all current physics theories are "true" (please note that nothing in sicence can ever be "true" or "proven" because that is the nature of science that allows it to change and evolve to support new data) we would need a method of actually "bending" the natural laws of the universe to create an intersection between the universes and hope that we can stabalize the intersection.

Basically, don't get your hopes up with interdimensional travel, but there is current research being done on bending spacetime. With MAJOR advancements in this field we would be able to travel massive interplanetary distances in a reletively instantanious time.

There is an infinite number of undiscovered parallel universes and 11 known universes to date.
Einstein gave us clues in his following well-known quotes...

"Time and space are modes in which we think and not conditions in which we live". -Albert Einstein

"Reality is merely an illusion, albeit a very persistent one."
-Albert Einstein

Another key is to remember that matter and energy are interchangeable. E=MC² That includes us.

The ancient Vedics and Rishis of India had discovered these truths thousands of years ago. They give the secrets of traveling between realities in their writings. One way is through advanced and deep meditation.

Time and distance do not exist. They are temporary illusions of this present temporary incarnation.
Eternity is not a continuous line of time extending forever.
Eternity is the absence of time.
Eternity is truth and not illusion.
Time does not exist as we perceive it.
Neither does space or distance.

Modern physics has proven that electrons and other quantum particles can exist in two places at once. They constantly blink in and our of our reality all the time. Those include the electrons in your body. Where do they go? To parallel realities.
Science is beginning to perceive the the universe is closer to a great thought, rather than an expanse of matter and energy.
The ancients knew this many thousands of years ago.
Einstein saw it too.

Since reality is an illusion perceived by our minds through our senses, we can ultimately control the events and circumstances in our personal reality. Many have done so. Jesus did it while performing his miracles. Some people do it today.

I have had some limited success in these things myself.

"In my Father's house there are many mansions"

Okay, has anyone seen Avatar on Nick? Well, the Avatar enters the spirit world through meditation.

To make a long story short, I think we can enter alternate universes through meditation.
