I've tried Bikini Zone and some medicated pads from Sally Hansen but nothing seem to REALLY work. I hear waxing is a good option but I need something more convenient. Any suggestions will help

You need to have the area well heated, so I would suggest taking a hot bath. Then without letting the water out, sit on the side of the tub, and put a lot of gel foam onto the area you want to shave. Then with a REALLY SHARP BLADE, brand new if you have one, start shaving IN THE DIRECTION OF HAIR GROWTH. So many people make the mistake of going "against the grain", so to speak, and giving themselves irritation bumps.

Since the hairs growth changes direction in different parts of the labia, pay special attention to this. If you are shaving only the outside edges, you will have to shave towards the mid-line, because the hair grows from the crease at the top of the thigh towards the labia. If you are shaving the hair at the very top of the thigh, this hair grows towards the knee. The division line is the crease between the crotch and the leg. If you run out of shaving gel in the area you are shaving, before you get all the hair off, reapply more gel. NEVER SHAVE SKIN WITHOUT A LUBRICANT OF SOME KIND.

When you are finished shaving, get in that hot bath again, and soak for at least 10 minutes. This will allow the water to soothe any irritation you may have caused.

I see lots of answers suggesting skin wax, but I've never tried it, and I know I can't afford it. I've only done it a few times, but when I did it this way, it worked without any problems. Start out with soaking the area completely in hot water, then applying a hefty amount of Skintimate shaving gel. I start the shaving with a fresh razor, and I keep an eye on the little bar at the top of the blade that tells when you should replace it. Don't shave against the way it grows, but if you want to keep it really short, try to do it at a bit of an angle so that you're getting it as low as the blade is able to cut. Make sure you're constantly re-soaking the area you're shaving to keep it free of irritants.

If you're okay with spending the time to do all this, then go for it. Maybe get something else done afterwards to make it more long-term, since this will only stay smooth for about half a week. Longer if the hair isn't used to being shaved.

Please make sure you are not shaving against the hair growth!! This will ALWAYS cause razor burn. Shave the direction of the growth. Also, thick body wash creams, work much better than soap or shave gel, such as Bath and Body Works Creamy Body Wash.
I have never had razor burn, but after discussing this issue with a friend who has it, and discussing it, she figured out it was because she was shaving against the hair growth.

soak in a warm/hot bath to hydrate your skin. buy a benzoyl peroxide wash (5%) at the drug store and lather up the area to be shaved. using a sharp (new) razor, shave with the hair growth, not against it. the benzoyl peroxide will sterilize the hair follicle and reduce the chance of irritation (razor bumps.) if needed, gently rub a lotion such as cetaphil on the area.
note: benzoyl peroxide can fade fabrics so use white towels to dry this area after your bath.

Waxing is fairly convenient especially if you buy the wax and do it yourself. Just heat the wax on the stove and apply. I think it's probably about the same amount of work as shaving and then doing all the extra stuff afterward.

The most effective way to not get razor burn is to shave with aloe vera gel. It works, and it makes your skin super smooth. Why not? Most shaving cream advertises aloe gel in it. so, just use the gel. It has never failed me.
