Are you a racist? Do you decsriminate against others based on sex, beleifs or for any other reason? Against who? Why? I am a twenty something female. 1/2 caucasian 1/2 hispanic (father born here in the US, mother too) I am engaged to a black man and I have encountered a lot of racism in my life. I have to do an essay on a signifigant problem in the US today and thats what I chose. So any comments will be appreciated. Whether I agree or not. Thanks

I think all people have prejudice in them, it's human nature. I try to treat everyone as equals, unless they give me a reason to think less of them. I don't believe that any race is less "worthy" than another. I believe everyone should be judged by their own merrits and not a stereotype of their "race, religion, gender...etc"

I also believe there are two different kinds of prejudice. There is prejudice that stems from ignorance. Someone might say something like: "I thought all Mexicans like spicy food" or "All black people listen to rap music." Generally, that thought probably comes from the person not knowing many people from these groups.

Hateful prejudice is when someone intentionally makes demeaning comments to another person. I really wish more people could distinguish between the two. Because often we make too much of the former and don't do enough to stop the latter.

Just my three and a half cents worth. :)

I make a conscious effort not to be intentionally racist. Sometimes I am ignorant, but welcome honest correction. I am mixed, and look white to most, but every now and then I get this question:

"So what race are you?"

It offends me. I usually don't answer.

The scariest thing that happened was when a little boy looked at me with the most hateful look on his face I've seen in a long time and used the "n" word. I thought of future implications when he was that young and already that mean.

With the amount of racism I have encountered.....I could write you a movie. There is too much to name on here! I live through it everyday, like most people.
