This occured to me in one of my other questions about how I often feel that girls treat me this way, but what's the point in having a "pet homosexual" or "gay boyfriend" (???) for girls??? I don't understand why I'm treated like a novelty item sometimes.

Sometimes, in female circles, it's just "cool" to have a gay friend to talk about sometimes. The concept has been highly romanticized in the media, and that alone makes some girls "want to try it" if you will. And sometimes its because they honestly do believe certain positive stereotypes, and they think that because you're gay, you're going to be X,Y,and Z that they find attractive qualities. Sometimes there's a liberal guilt factor, to where they feel they need to prove how accepting they are by racking up gay friends. there's lots of reasons, but none of them are excuses to boil you down to one quality and strip you of individuality and humanity.

For most girls, having a gay male friend makes them feel "cool". Its a statement saying "look how open minded I am, I have a gay friend". This is perpetuated by tv shows like Will and Grace. The gay friend usually allows this relationship (and encourages) because the girl makes them feel accepted as a gay man.

I don't know about "regular" gay guys, but almost of all of my gay friends are performers so I that I'm sure also influences how they act, but for the most part I, as a dutiful hag, try not to get too attached to my f_gs because the ones I know tend to be flaky and insincere. Don't get me wrong, I love them to death and they are fabulous to hang out with, but the queens I know (and I know a LOT) are generally flitty little creatures surgically attached to their phones and their mirrors.

Because, for straight women, it's like another "girlfriend" they can hang out with, but a man, so being raised to be a man, they can still get the "Manly" opinions (Get what I'm saying)...
women like this (both gay and straight) are usually termed "fag hags"

i always heard it referred to in the other sense like girls were the "fag hags" [no disrespect intended] who gay guys had as their "token straight"
all my friends seem to be straight guys; but i for once would love to have gay guy friends who i could hang out with who are into football and hockey with.
i have to keep shooting my current friends down everytime we go out. it gets annoying when they start drinking and wanting to hit the sack with me. they always wind up apologizing, but it gets old.

sorta like a pet rock? or a gay boytoy. LOL...seriously, I know what you mean...being the TOKEN gay is a treatment I really dislike...If you like me then like me for who I am...not for who I have sex with. Good question.
