Because mothers have a maternal, nurturing instinct to care for their children. Fathers love their children but don't have that same bond that mothers have. Men tend to think more along the lines of making sure they have a roof over their heads and clothes on their back rather than making sure they get their hug for the day.

There are indeed dead beat moms but statistically, more dads abandon their children.

Most feel its more important that if the mother is a suitable mother that the kids go with her because a mother is more of a nurturer then a father...and psychologist will tell u that especially when children are younger thats what they need for their own social and emotional growth .. DOESNT MEAN ALL MOTHERS should have custody, cause i know there are some really crappy mothers out there, and I have nothing against men in anyway shape or form getting custody of the children i was raised by my father, and i am thankful every day he had custody of me and not my mother even though i love her, He was definately the better parent..

Think about it. Women have the closest bond with their children - most of the time. You don't take a nursing child from it's mother. And what men are asking for full custody? Get real.

Having said that, I think this trend is changing. Judges are looking closely at fathers who are asking for custody. Still, men are still doing most of the full time work. Those who are staying home to raise their children are, however, on the rise. Look around and I think you'll see that things are moving along. Change takes time.

Usually, not always, the mothers are always granted custody because they are usually (not always) the primary caregiver of all the child's needs. It is very rare circumstances where a child woudl be taken away from their mother - she would have to be abusive or on drugs or deemed unfit somehow. Other that that society has put females and their motherly instincts inthe role as primary caregiver.

Because the courts still think this is the 20th century, where women should stay home with the kids and men must go and work full-time to pay the bills. Fact!

Depends on the lawyer.....My ex took my daughter 15 years ago and always managed to be "out of town" the weekends that I scheduled to visit. Family friend was his lawyer, so please don't think that the women always get the children. Maybe more so than the guys, but some of us weren't so lucky. My advice to those of you thinking of getting married....Pray about it and make sure that you are marrying the right one for the right reasons. Then you can both have the children.

Because most judges want the kids to be with their mom and the husband can always get joint custody or visitation rights unless the mom is unfit then the father gets custody.

not 2 sure, but i know if i had a divorce i would not want my husband to have her primary. not because i think he will do bad but im her mom,i carried her for 10 months (yes 10 40 weeks its really not 9 months) i cant imagine just letting my child leave me full time , it would suck........i dunno i guess its a special kind connection.

also and sad 2 say but how often do SOME guys stick around?

because most judges feel that children will be better off with there mother....In my case my children are my ex husband cant take care of them when they visit him...would hate to see what would happen if he had them all yr long

Anyway he is a dead beat dad and wouldnt have money to take care of them...I struggle but so worth it....I enjoy being with my kids and spending time with them_
