5 8 Converted To Decimal

If you want to do it by hand calculation follow these steps. Here 5 is smaller than 8 hence it's not divisible by 8,so
1.Add a zero to the right of 5,that will make it 50,now 50 is divisible by 8.
2.Dividing 50 by 8 gives you 6 with a remainder of 2
3.Now 2 is not divisible by 8,so pad a zero to the right of 2 again, now 20 is divisible by 8.Here when you add zero you must place a decimal point near 6
4.Dividing 20 by 8 gives you 2 on the top with a remainder of 4.
5.Now 4 is not divisible by 8,so pad a zero to the right of 4 again, now 40 is divisible by 8
6.Dividing 40 by 8 gives you 5 with a remainder of 0.So you got numbers 6.25.
7.Since you've added a zero to the right of 5 in the first step, you need to shift the decimal to the left, which would result in 0.625,which is the answer.

Try the division of 5.000 by 8 in regular form. Since 5 is less than 8, the answer is less than 1. The first number in the decimal (the tenths position) is 6, since 0.6 x 8 is 4.8, and 6 is the largest integer which gives a result less than 5. Working through the problem, you get 0.625

You can make 5/8 into a decimal by dividing it out:

From division 5/8 = .625

Another way is divide 100 by the bottom number and multiply that number by the top number:

100/8 = 12.5 >> 5*12.5 = 62.5

Now divide by 100 (laymens terms, just move the decimal point over to the left 2 digits)

Do it the old way, Divide 8 into 5 adding zeroes to "make"big enough numbers, i.e., 5.0 divided by 8 is 0.6 with a remainder of 0.2 so 0.20 treat as 20 and 8 goes in twice with a remainder of 0.04, treat 0.04 as 40, and 8 goes into 40 evenly as 5 so your answer is 0.625, check it on the calculator.
