What is music therapy?

I know a girl that plans to major in it next year. I want to know what the hel* (oh, wait, can't say that here) it is, and why in the world would you major in it?

In a helping profession it's an additional way to improve the quality of life outside of traditional talk therapy.

You can teach music classes and it can be used for counseling with disabled people.
