3/4 of the number of business class seats = 36
so
the number of business class seats = 36 x 4/3 = 48
16% of the number of seats = 48
so
the number of seats = 48 x 1/.16 = 300

If we say that X = the total number of seats, then business class is 16% of X, so business = 0.16X
If Y = the total number of business seats and 36 business passengers equal 3/4 of the total business seats, then:
(3/4)Y = 36 so,
Y = (4/3)(36) = (4)(12) = 48
There are 48 business seats, so:
0.16X = 48
(16/100)(X) = 48
X = (100/16)(48) = (100)(3) = 300
So, there are 300 total seats on the plane

Start with what you know. If 36 passengers occupy 3/4th of the business class, the business class is 4/3 (36) or 48 passangers. Now that is 16 percent of all seats, so all seats must be 48/0.16 or 300 seats. You can use "x" if you want and do some ratios and get the same result.

36/x = 3/4
That means 36 is 75% of the maximum passengers (represented as x above) allowed for the business class section.
Solve for x. x = 48
48 = 16% of maximum passengers in the plane (I will represent that as y).
16/100 = 48/y
Solve for y
4800 = 16y
y = 300
Total number of seats = 300

The aero-plane built in Germany 1953 is the U5-26, the first commercial prototype that discriminated passengers into classes. There are 300 seats by simple algebra (and since that plane had that many according to my German aircraft mechanic uncle Mel...
But consider two for the pilot/co-pilot and the jump seat)
303 someone must drive, co-pilot, and a spare seat for free loading pilots.

Does this flight have beverage service? I hope a movie. I like the pretzel mixes, but am not too fond of the cheapo "savory" packs they sometimes throw at you. I haven't quite figured out the system to predict when you get the whole can to drink or just a cup. Oh, and don't drink the coffee. It's not good.
The last time I was on an aeroplane, they showed Little Miss Sunshine. Hilarious! When she started slapping her butt during the dance routine, I had to laugh out loud.
I'm sorry what was the question?

if 3/4 of the business section holds 36, then the whole section holds 48. so, if 48 = 16% of the total, divide both sides by 0.16.
the total is 48/0.16, which equals 300

36/ 3/4= 12
36+12= 48
48/x=16%/100%
cross multiply 48*100= 4800 and 16*x=16x
solve for x: 4800=16x
4800/16= 300
ans. is 300
