Well with 4 kids ya' just gotta cut corners. We seldom eat out so the majority of our meals are cooked at home. Watch the grocery adds because they run in cycles. Items we can freeze or buy in bulk we do, as long as it will keep. We don't run to the store for a gallon of milk or loaf of bread, we do without until we go shopping. We don't purchase soft drinks; milk, juice & water do just fine. Plus the kids think it's great treat when they get soda. Clothes are traded and passed down with family friends. All my change goes into a jar for savings. We also plan our trips so that we don't travel the same road 2 or 3 times. Entertainment is more of a family event or spending time together working in the garden or around the house or the kids school projects. And I love to spend time with the kids baking cookies, pies and treats. Much cheaper than buying cookies at the store and the reward of hearing their stories and what's going on in their lives is cherished. We also hit a lot of garage sales and thrift stores for clothing, household items, gifts, etc. You got the right idea, just keep looking for those opportunities to save money rather than spend it. I am sure you will find it is well worth it. Best wishes!

My husband and I try not to use any change...instead we clean it all out of our wallets/pockets/my purse every couple of days and put it in our "change jar"...We just let it keep adding up, and then when the year is over, we take all the money and deposit into our savings account, and start over! I don't know if that's really a wonderful tip to save money, but I like it! :) ..I also buy the store brand of pretty much everything when I'm grocery shopping...and I eat a lot of Ramen Noodles b/c they are sooo cheap!!
