I recommend that you wait until JUNE. While Vista will be out on January 30th, things will change, and bugs will arise. You will probably have trouble.

Yes, you should buy a computer with it PRE-LOADED. The whole idea is that it will be installed correctly, and the manufacturer has caught-on how to do it right for you.

By the way, many large companies are planning to HOLD OFF installing Windows Vista until mid-2008. They have already made the study, and determined that MOST of their existing software won't work with it. So GO WITH THE MONEY.

Good luck and Happy Computing!

Yes ... & it is well worth it.

Faster, more intuitive, better security & a much better user interface. A whole new OS really ... not just a redecorated XP Pro .... by any means.

Most PC manufacturers are offering free upgrades to Vista if you purchase a new "Vista Capable" PC. I know that HP Media Centers include a free upgrade. Ask about it or look it up on your prefered manufacturer's website.

They will ship out system restore DVDs with Vista & all the software that came with the unit. It will be a clean install.

FYI ... all my software works fine on it. Even though I am using the x64 version all my 32 bit apps run perfectly. The problem in most cases (even for the x86 or 32 bit version is drivers ... not software).

I'm not just talking the talk here ... trust me. I've been using it with no issues whatsoever for almost 2 months now.

The RTM (release to manufacturers) full version has been out for a while. That's how I've come to have it. It is presently being installed on all newly produced Vista capable units ready for shipping next month.

As for bugs & fixes ... hey, we're still getting updates for XP aren't we ? Those will always be a fact of life with PCs.

It hasn't crashed on me yet & as for hackers or security flaws ... I have yet to experience any.

Large companies often use proprietary software ... they need to wait for their own programers ( or the provider) to fix compatability issues with their internal software & any new operating system. This does not apply to the vast majority of consumer applications.

Learn a lesson from IE 7. IE 7 came out and just about everyone HAD to have it. It was new, improved and "safer". Well all of those people are having so many problems with it. Yahoo Answers is filled with IE 7 problems and people asking how to get IE 6 back. My advice, wait. Why do you think XP had to have so many service packs? They were correcting all the errors. Just because it is new doesn't mean it is better. There are probably a lot of kinks and quirks. I personally will wait quite awhile before I even think about getting Vista. Not only that, you need to make sure your computer can run it. I believe you have to have a 64 bit processor and a motherboard to support that processor.

Wait till the release of Vista for home users for better results and get your PC upgraded for 'Vista ready'. It uses high amount of system resources. I have used it and I must say that it is the best of all OS.
Its aero interface is fantastic and games also run with amazing speed and graphics. Vista ha the ability to unload itself from RAM when heavy applications are run such as games thus providing superb results. DirectX 10 also improves the quality.
