My youth minister has asked me to speak to a group of teen cutters about cutting. I was a former cutter and i know a lot about it. Im looking for someone who used to cut to tell me what they wish somebody would have told them when they were doing it? and what made them stop? and anything that you think will benefit theses teens and help them to atleast consider stopping. Any help will be appreciated.

I wish that someone would've told me that it's not something I have to hide from my family. It's isolating, you know, and it just made me all the more upset that I couldn't trust anyone with my secret. I seriously thought that if my parents found out, they'd lock me up in a mental hospital, but that was not the case at all.

I stopped because I saw how much it was hurting my dad. He looks like a tough guy on the outside but he is really compassionate, and it was making him incredibly sad.

Are you speaking to young teens, older teens, or a mix? It may help the younger ones to know that they don't have to grow up in a snap or know precisely what to do, just be themselves. The older ones probably have issues with relationships, or maybe with substance abuse and/or depression.

Good luck.

I cut school at times because I didnt want to go. So I took a break. But I also made sure I was up with the course I was taking so as not to fall behind and then have to catch up. Now it is all about laws and such and little awareness of really what or how a person is doing in school.
