One of the best things to do when you first get to St. Augustine is to take one of the train/trolley tours. They give you an overview of the city and that will let you pick what you are most interested in. Unfortunately in springtime, the water will be cold, so the beach will only be particularly enjoyable for walking and not swimming.

I may be biased (since I used to work there), but one of my absolute favorite things, especially with kids, is Old Florida Museum. If you're willing to take the time and actually read through the self-guided tour and do the activities, it is one of the most interactive places to go. If you do go to Old Florida Museum, try to go on the weekend - they are packed to the hilt with school groups during the week.

Things that appeal to families:
Old Florida Museum
Ghost Tours of St. Augustine (older children)
Ripley's Believe-It-or-Not
Alligator Farm
Castillo de San Marcos (the fort)
Old Jail

Things that appeal to adults:
Ghost Tours of St. Augustine
Old St. Augustine Village
Castillo de San Marcos
shopping on St. George Street
Flagler College Rotunda (decent tours are not available until summer when the students are gone)
Fountain of Youth
Tours of the intercostal by boat

A must see there is the Castillo de San Marcos Spanish fort from about 1695 . An exciting piece of history . Then you can practically walk from there over to a little "Old Towne" with a lot to see and do . There may be a small fee at the Fort ; but you can just browse thru the Old Towne if you choose not to buy anything ( food or...) .
