2.9 is not slow. If you couple your 2.9 with other junk components in your computer, it will seem to drag it down. Memory, graphics card and even sound card will play an effect on how your computer will act. There are graphic cards that actually feed off the processor for power, so it will seem alot more sluggish than a 2.0 that has a dedicated graphics card with another 256 or 512 of RAM.
You can have a cadillac body with a pinto engine and it's not going to get you very far. Each part inside that car relies on another to keep running well. Same with a computer, they all work together.
Keep your internet cache cleared when you are through surfing the web. Delete temp files often. Run a defrag once a week or so if you download/move files around alot. A full virus scan can be done once every 2 weeks. Spyware is usually the infamous cookies which are left by visiting sites, or you install programs which use 3rd party software. Be aware of what you install on your computer, read every section and uncheck those START AT STARTUP boxes if it's not needed. When you bog your computer down with programs that load up when your computer boots up, it uses the computer's resources and you will think that you actually bought a 60mhz pentium with a 600 mb hard drive and 64mb of RAM. GHz stands for gigahertz.
Gigahertz is the frequency (speed) in which the data can be processed by the CPU within your computer.
Your processor (CPU) runs at 2.9 gigahertz or 2900 megahertz.
A slow computer will run anywhere from .5 to 1.0 gigahertz, and a very fast one 4.0 plus gigahertz. So your computer is in the high midrange to low top end for speed.

Keep in mind the 2.9 GHz is only rating your CPU and not the other components involved with computer speed. They are RAM (memory chips) and motherboard. A computer is only as fast as the slowest component installed that works with data flow.

A 2.9Ghz pc is still fairly powerful by most of today's standards but even a much more powerful pc will be slowed by Spyware. Keeping a computer clean will keep it fast!

It is true that the more GHz in a processor the more speed. But this depends what type of processor you are using. A new Intel Core Duo at 1.6Ghz is faster than a Intel Pentium 4 at 3GHz Because a Core Duo is like having two processors in one. To answer your question 2.9 GHz is not slow.
