I want to train to run a 5k, but have a 6 year old knee injury, a partially torn Anterior Cruiciate Ligament. I can walk, dance, workout and climb stairs with no pain. I know what the doctor says but they are so over cautious!

I injured it in 1999. My goal is to be able to run my first 5k by the end of April.

you didn't state your timeline. if you strengthen your other ligaments and muscles enough to bear the brunt of the force, I wouldn't know why not. I ski regularly without any ACL (I tore mine in high school) You should definitely wear a knee brace, at least to start out. Listen to your body. If you wake up in excruciating pain, at least slow down.

I agree you particularly do not desire to debris round with you knee, nd im talking from revel in. I was once gambling Ice Hockey, so I assume to get a few accidents, however I took a nasty slam into the forums and had a participant land correct onto my left knee. The first document I noticed mentioned it was once simply twisted and that I could heal in a couple of weeks so long as I stored off it. After approximately five weeks it stored giving out on me, and I could not stand. So I went to one more document, had CAT scans and an MRI, I had truthfully torn my ACL, MCL performed wide ligament harm and truthfully placed a fracture in my knee. I was once on crutches for 6 month and I nonetheless get issues with my knee now nearly a 12 months later, in view that I did not return quickly sufficient whilst I knew whatever nonetheless wasn't correct. I do not know the way a lot an MRI could fee (as right here within the UK its protected by means of the NHS so I do not pay) however although it does fee alot is your well being particularly valued at risking. I were advised my knee will certainly not be as powerful because it was once, in view that I waited round and dtook too many possibilities with it, and im simplest 22, which means that I have alot of years of issues forward. Dont chance it

It either healed or it didn't. If it never healed, then you have an unstable knee and could tear it completely, so the choice is one of how much risk you're willing to take.

Jog really really slow and if it starts to cause any pain in your knee then stop.

If you wanna get in shape you should prolly try swimming or possibly biking.
