computer tower is not worth upgrading. Go Out and buy a computer upgrade kit. It comes with motherboard, cpu, cpu fan, memory. Then go out and buy a new ATX CPU Case, you can get a cheap one for about 30 bucks or more depending what you want and how fussy you are. Get a new SATA hard drive, for 80Gig+ for about $80+ depenging what size you need or can afford. Your optical drive runs abbout 35 - 100 bucks for a +/- 18x DVD Burner. depending where you get it and the brand you get. Video cards vary from $50 - $1000 depending on your needs. For the couple of bucks your saving in trying to upgrade your old tower it would make more sense to sell it and use the money for your new computer.

Yes, upgrade to at least 2Gb, the new standard. Go to the dell website and to find out what kind you need. Should be anywhere from $20-40. This will significantly increase your computers performance. Computers are getting cheaper, and you can get a decent dual core processor for $500 and at least 2Gb's of ram and a very roomy 200Gb hard drive. If you wish to make that leap. You probably can't upgrade the graphics card in that computer since PCI express didn't really come on that many computers back then, so if you upgrade your whole computer and then upgrade the graphics card for a far superior computer than the one you have right now.

Dude, I dont think its worth the upgrade. I would suggest that you just buy a new computer. If you buy a computer with 1 gig of RAM in it, your okay, but might as well upgrade to 2 gigs. Anything with over 1 gig (especially for Vista). Get a good video card. Pentiums are all dead now so get an Intel Core 2 Duo (or as in the case of extremely show off PCs, Core 2 Extreme.
Get 500 gig HDD (Hard Drive). Make sure it has a DVD drive (it must be having).
Hpoe this helped.

That computer requires a lot of upgrading if you're going to do any gaming. You'd have to upgrade the ram and get a real graphics card, then you'd want to upgrade you CPU, which may require you to get a new motherboard. Getting a new motherboard will likely make you need a different type of ram and a graphics card that connects with PCI-Express.

So just start over and get a new one.

Check to see if you have an AGP port. If you do, buy yourself a better graphics card (nVidia and ATI's medium to high end graphics card, not the low-end ones). Upgrade your RAM to at least 500 MB RAM (1 GIG preferable, but not sure if your system supports?). Also, clean up your HD a bit (leave some HD space) and defragment!

I'd have to agree with the others. If you want a little bit more speed on the cheap, more memory would be the way to go. But putting the cash into a new machine is the best investment.

Since the Compaq is the worst computer out there, upgrade into something, anything, else and you'll be OK. Spending more money on that is throwing money down the drain.

The best thing to do is get rid of that piece of crap and start from scratch!!! Go to www.newegg.com Top quality parts...I build all my computers from there...
