Usable - it's used in building, for classroom chalk (just to name a couple of uses).

It can be expensive to get (as it'll require some good machinary to remove. Even if it is dug out by hand, it'll take a lot of money/funding).

And it can be seen as valuable to science, especially to fossil hunters, as the BEST fossils are preserved in limestone.

Limestone is relatively inexpensive when compared to other natural resources. It is also very valuable, especially in the construction industry. Portland cement(the ingredient that makes concrete concrete) is manufactured from limestone.
Also, many roadway's base material is crushed limestone.
Limestone is chiefly made of calcium carbonate(CaCO2) which is the main ingredient in some antacids.
Limestone is also a valuable tool in neutralizing acid mine drainage. Because calcium carbonate is slightly basic, it can neutralize acidic mine water without being overly harmful to the environment.

Limestone is a sedimentary rock and is dug up in quarrys, like ingleton quarry, limestone is found in caves and potholes, stalactites and stalagmites are formed from water running on limestone

It is very usable. and valuable and can be expensive. It is used for a wide variety of things from the making of concrete to road beds and driveways. You can get it crushed and up to 2'' in diameter for these types of applications. And there are many other forms and ues of this material.

Limestone has been used for thousands of years as a building stone, sculpting medium and for memorials (tombstones and such) Its value depends on the artist and the patron.
Limestone is/ can be a very beautiful building material since it is the metamorphic form of calcium carbonate and may include fossil shells.

i'm pretty sure that limestone is calcuim carbonate. it is used for chalk in a classroom. it's also the main ingrediant in tums. it must not be expensive if it's used for mass production of chalk and tums.

In many countries large quantities of lime are consumed in steel making where it serves as a flux for removing impurities such as silica, phosphorous and sulphur. In the construction industry lime fulfills a crucial role as a soil stabiliser for roads, airfields, building foundations and earth dams. Lime is used to chemically treat and strengthen clay soils to form satisfactory base and subbase material.

In paper making lime is used as a causticizing agent and for bleaching.

In non-ferrous metallurgy lime is used to beneficiate copper ore, make alumina and magnesia for use in aluminium and magnesium manufacture, extract uranium and recover gold, silver and other precious metals.

The chemical industry requires lime to make such chemical as sodium alkalies, calcium carbide, calcium hypochlorite, citric acids and petro-chemicals.

The traditional use of lime in mortar and plaster for construction is still important. Limestone is the primary ingedient of cement, and so is vital in the construction and roading industires. In addition lime is used in refractories, sugar refining, glass making, leather tanning. plastics, and pigments.

Lime also has a vital role to play in farming industry as an agricultural fertiliser, fungicide and insecticide.. Agricultural lime has a range of uses and benefits, it: neutralises soil acidity, is a direct source of plant nutrients, increases the supply of other nutrients, increases organic matter, increases soil micro organisms, improves soil tilth, provides a source of trace elements, and increases the efficiency of fertilisers.

Limestone is used for folowing purposes :

* Aggregate or crushed rock for road making
* Cement production
* Fertilizer
* Chemical production
* A filler for powdered products
* Glass making
* Electricity production
* Building stone

However, it is a very heavy material, making it impractical for tall buildings. It is also quite expensive.

The cost of a natural stone depends on a number of factors.

The mechanical properties of a marble may influence its price as well.The harder the limestone, the more time it requires to cut and the more energy it consumes. And it is speaking of days that it takes to cut one block of granite. On the other hand, they can be extremely long lasting — speaking of decades and centuries — because they are so hard.

A third factor when it comes to prices of limestone is the availability of a certain type of them. The deposits of some limestone are very limited and only allow for the extraction of a small quantity of material.
