great, funny movies....

Nowadays, it doesn't seem like there is that wide of a selection for teens...

Do you feel this is true..or am I just becoming a 40 year old fuddy duddy.....

I mean..movies like "Weird Science," "Better Off Dead," "Back to the Future," "The Breakfast Club" etc. are still totally watchable...and all so different.

Do teens today have that kind of variety in movies...or is the industry becoming watered down..

You're absolutely right - gone are the days of Ferris Bueller's Day off. We're missing John Hughes terribly too. Today it's all about gangbusters and drugs - it's taking the fun out of being a kid. I really feel sorry for today's kids with the stuff they have to put up with - they're not allowed to be "kids" any more.

I think it is the change in society as we know it. I see some movies and wonder why they even wasted the money to produce it and yet, it apparently was popular and made kazillions the first week of release.

It could be what you term 40 year old fuddy duddy, too. What was funny then isn't nearly as funny to today's audience.

Another aspect to it is the fact they are remaking so many of some of the older classics, which is all right, I suppose, but it indicates to me they have run out of material to work with.

War of the Worlds with Tom Cruise is an example. The graphics were what made the show in the second version. The story is still the same. And had it not been for Cruise and Fanning having the lead, I doubt I would have watched it.

Teenagers are so different now, so of course the movies are as well. Teens today seem to be sex crazed, violent and just nuts! Most of the movies geared towards teenagers these days fit right in there in my opinion. Maybe I'm just an old fuddy duddy too though.

Interesting question. I agree. We had movies about school and going to the mall and just being a teenager. Now, they are all horror/slasher films. About gangs or oversexed pre-teens. Of course, the movies may be different because times have changed in the 20+ years since we were teenagers....

I'm afraid you are right. The good stuff is past (and still totally watchable). Nowadays, there is so much focus on ganster killings, murders coming out of my ears, crappy teenage high school films etc.

Don't get me wrong, these were also present in the 80's but it seems that they have taken the worst of the 80's and duplicated them for the naughties.

Those movies were awesome. I guess today's teens have American pie but they just don't compare to Weird Science and Revenge of the Nerds.

I think you are right. there really doesn;t seem to be the caliber of teen films, even bad one like "St Elmo's Fire" and "All the Pretty Horses".

The talent is there; the stories are not

I so agree, now they are rampant with sex and violence. Better Off Dead was my absolute favorite!!!! By the way "Where's my $2.00? I want my $2.00!"
