Everyone has that one thing that they are addicted to, and some might not even now it. It is that thing that you think about all the time. It is constantly on your mind and you don't know how to stop thinking about it. All you know is that you want it. For some people this thing can be cigarettes, food, sex, drugs, or alcohol. Other people have more positive addictions like christianity or music. If you would, please tell me what your addiction is and how you can possibilly get over a negative addiction.

First you have to realize that the things you are addicted to are giving you more misery than pleasure. Originally we did the thing to give us pleasure but now it is bondage and misery. So that gives us the impetus to quit. Secondly if you don't have a positive addiction to replace it you will go to another negative addiction. We all need something to make us happy. This world is an illusion called Maya and is temporary and full of misery. The reason people have material addictions is because they don't know the actual meaning of life. We are not this body, mind, senses, race, job, etc. Yet all these addictions pertain to the bodily conception of life. We are eternal spirit souls, part and parcel of the Supreme Soul also known as Krishna, Allah, Jehovah, Vishnu. etc. We have to reconnect with our maker to get free from addictions and illusion. The quickest way is to chant the Maha Mantra. Go to harekrishnatemple.c for details. Read Bhagavad Gita As it is By Bhaktivedanta Prabhupada. It worked for me.

Addictions are what drives us. Some people might call it living to the fullest.
Perhaps the answers you're seeking are for THIS question: "How can we take control of an addiction so that it does NO harm to ourselves or others?"

You have got ur mind strong and whenever it strives for the addicted-to-thing, try to entangle itself in more pressing matters or other favorite things. I was addicted to sleeping with my doll and try as i might, i never used to get sleep without it. I tried the above and now i feel sleepy alone... :-)

It isn't easy but you must substitute some how.
Talk to a friend and if your addiction isn't spending money than go shopping with your friend.
When I quit smoking I ate donuts, than I worried about weight gain and took up jogging.

pot. 1) smoke all you have and don't buy more. 2) don't hang out with those that smoke for several days or weeks. 3) walk for very long distances. 4) read.
Does the addiction ever go away? or have you just not done it for a long time...

Stay in control. Addiction, is a primitive, weak, and pathetic result of someone who can not remain in control.

ONE OF THE REAL MEANS TO THE TRUTH IS THE FACT THAT THERE IS NO REASON NOT TO FACE IT, EMBRACE IT, LUST IT, AND DO ALL YOU OBSESSING AND THEN MOVE ON=THINK POSITIVE ABOUT HOW BRAINS WORK=KNOW THAT YOU COULD ENJOY IT ON YOUR MIND AND NOT HAVE Bad reactions if you could just let up on yourself in real time. EACH TIME YOU TRY TO WALL IT OFF IT ISN'T GOING TO WORK=SO JUST ENJOY IT TELL IT PRESENT NO PROBLEM IN YOUR MIND AND MOVE ON=THIS IS ONE OF THE ALTERNATIVES IN REAL LIFE IS THAT YOUR NOT ALL BAD AND YOU CAN BE U AND IT WILL WORK JUST FINE

Sugar - candy, cookies, ...
I try not to buy them, but buy lots of fruits.
But when I am depressed, my husband buys me treats. Once they are in the house, I will eat them. I can not get mad at my husband when he is trying to cheer me up.
So, I try to keep busy and not let things get to me.
