Hi...go to a website: www.the-cma.org

This is a Canadian Marketing site which you can join (for free) to be removed from contact lists of marketing corporations (they have a huge list, which includes telemarketers, by the way).

You'll need to enter information including the telephone numbers (and if your concern is paper junk mail, an address) that these telemarketers are using to contact you, and you will be placed on the "Do not contact" list of the said companies. It can take up to six weeks to take effect, but stays so for 3 years.

*Be mindful, however, that there are telemarketing companies which have computers that randomly dial telephone numbers, and tag the number as "active" upon reaching an answering machine, etc. (However, I'm unsure as to whether they tag it based on ringing alone). You can tell when this happens when you pick up your ringing phone, only to hear a series of steady beeps...that's when you know you're number has been recorded as legit, and you'll soon recieve a call from that company now that your number has been added to their database (the sneaky buggers know that they can get away with this legally right now!).

I've done this twice in the past decade, and although it may not reach every single telemarketer or company in the world, it sure helped to cut down on a lot of annoying calls and junk mail (paper) for me!

Hope it helps, have a great day!

You also need to make sure they are a telemarketing company. The law only applies to telemarketers. I work for a polling firm and I don't know how many times a day we have to tell people the do not call list does not cover opinion polls it only covers people calling to sell you something.
