No confidence in yourself. You'll go nowhere like that.

There are many possibilities and you didn't give much information, so I can only speculate. Some reasons include:
1. You are afraid you might fail. So long as you don't try, you will still have your dream and imaginary future to live for. If you try and fail, you'll have to reassess everything.
2. It might require some sacrifice of some sort and you are afraid of giving that up. For example, if it involves you quitting your job, you might be at risk financially.
3. You dream could cause you to radically change your life and most people fear the unknown and change to a certain extent.
4. You could just lack the discipline or skill to make your dream a reality and it is easier to keep it in the future than to accept that.
5. Your dream could involve something that really is scary.

These are all issues that I have or am grappling with in terms of following my own dream, so I don't mean this in a judgemental way at all. Following a dream is difficult and risky.

I followed a dream. It's been a wild ride. I chose to follow a career dream. I've achieved the highest position I can get at least for the immediate future. I am well respected across the country for my work. In some years I've made lots of money. But in recent years, the industry in which I work has been prone to strikes. These issues, along with some other issues have made me begin to think of a career change. But I will always have the 15 or so years of experience I've gained and enjoyed. I'd never trade a day of it and I've really made some wonderful friends and lived incredible experiences along the way. Sure, there have been sacrifices. But each day that I go to work, I actually feel lucky. I know many, many people who can never say they feel lucky and happy going to work. So, in this respect, I am blessed.

I like ur question, I think everyone has this, you know I read somewhere when you have a dream & u r not following it, ask urself, what am I still curious enough about to follow this path? what makes me want it the more?
For me, my dream is to find my soul mate, wether he really exists doesn't matter, I think for my dream 2 come true I have 2 b ready, I have to improve myself, be the person I want to be when I meet him, I don't want to be a mess when I meet him...it won't be what I want.
I say go for it, the fears are there exactly to stop you, so ignore them ,think postive as much as you can.

You have to make sure you are certain what your dreams mean before you follow them.

This is a fear of failure.
Don't be afraid - if you don't try, you have already failed and should you fail whilst trying, at least you will have the knowledge that you reach for more and no doubt, will end up with more - even if you don't actually reach your goals.
Go for it!
Carpe Diem!

There's this popular lie we tell ourselves, that if we don't take a chance we won't get hurt. It helps to remind ourselves that not fulfilling any of our dreams can also hurt. Good luck to you!
