Probably not. Although you don't mention what sort of Tetras you have. Some species of Tetras can be "picky"and bothersome but most species are not killers. Did you check the water quality, Otos can be sensitive to ammonia and nitrites. ----PeeTee

I would be more worried about whether the algae eater is 1)small enough for the tank(most are too big for almost any tank) and 2) whether it would kill your other fish. The fact that all you said is "algae eater" leads me to believe that you have a Chinese algae eater, which stop eating algae and start eating fish as they grow older.

The likelihood of those fish killing an algae eater would be low. Usually algae eaters starve to death. You can but aquarium weights for plants then put one through a small slice of zucchini or cucumber if you do not have a ton of algae in your tank.
