so heres the deal I ordered a computer 2 weeks before xmas from staples. I got the computer 2 days before xmas and set it up a week later only to find that the speakers were broken. So I called them to get the computer repalced 2 weeks later I get my new new computer and the computer has 15GB hard-drive less then the one I ordered and the CD Drive doesnt work. So I called them again to get that one repaced and now I just got the New New New computer and again it still has 15GB less then it should. What should I do? I think I deserve a brand new one free or this last one free or this new new new one free since everything works besides the 15GB?

Ok Grasshopper. You got what you want, but see less than you have.
There is a certain amount of space your drive uses for applications and programs. The 15 Gb sounds about right. If you were to put in a 1 Gb drive your computer WOULD NOT run due to insufficient memory to run the start up programs and such. But ANY computer you bought will have the same problem you do. You do not get a CLEAN 100 Gb of memory maybe, 82 Gb like mine, cuz you need the room to run programs.

Take a look at My Computer, in Windows Explorer.. see if you have a Drive C and a Drive D. If you do, I bet the total of the two disk capacities is about the same as the one you expect...?
Many manufacturers format the single drive to have two partitions... the second, smaller one being a place to keep backup and recovery sets.
Was this a standard machine that you ordered through Staples.com, or was it a BTO (build to order) machine that you specified yourself?
This is nothing to do with Staples, it's standard practice by the manufacturer, but Staples' customer care will do their best to make you happy, if you contact them, instead of airing your beef here... especially since there's a good chance that you're wrong ... :-)

It's not 15 gb less. Relax. When a hard drive says 80 Gb for example, there are only 76 usable.
Also, on your computer there is a hidden partition used for restoring to factory default. This is in case of a virus, or system crash.

After formating & partitioning a hard disk never uses the full size reported by the manufacturer (called native capacity).
This is normal. I suggest you find the model / type of the hard drive via the Windows "device manager" & look it up on the web to see what the native capacity is.
I'm almost certain it will be what was advertised by the vendor.

Well maybe you should call them back and say that your missing 15GB and that your not happy with your new product. Tell them if they do not fixt the probably and correct this time then you will return your purchase.

This is the reason you don't buy from a reseller, EVER. The more middlemen you involve, the more of a mess repairs are. Anyway if you got a mac this wouldn't have happened lol Well return it and buy it from somewhere else. Good luck.

It works fine now, then I wouldn't complain. If its the same kind of computer, then there was probably a change in manufacturering/supplier but replacements are allowed to be slightly differnt computers of equal value.
