I started at 18 when one of my girlfriends pointed out the puffiness in my bikini bottom. I decided that it wasn't attractive. I reccommend doing it for hygene reasons, too (less opportunity for sweat to stick and stink).
Use a good quality sharp, clean razor (Venus is great. I've been using it for years and just upgraded to Venus Power - gives even closer shave), shave in the direction the hair is growing, and moisturize the area with lotion/cream (I like cocoa butter). You could also use shaving cream. These things will help you to avoid ingrown hairs, itching, cuts and bumps.
I've been doing it almost daily for over six years now and never have any of those issues.
The more important issue is why you are doing it. Don't start because you think other people expect you to. You definately shouldn't start doing it if it has anything to do with sex. If you think it's gross, you may not be comfortable with the idea of sex yet and that's okay. Don't let others push you into something you aren't ready for. You'll thank yourself later, trust me!!

There is the bikini wax, on the sides of "down there" and then there is the brazilian wax, which is "off" with all the fur, which was popular a few years ago. The bikini wax is much simplier, but both, whenever you decide to do it, when the hair starts to grow in, you WILL be scratching all the time as if you have a problem. You will be in the stores and it won't even matter to you (you'll get to this point) on who is watching you or who isn't. The only thing that will matter to you is that you have to scratch it because it will itch like crazy. That is the only bad part. I started when I was 20.

I have done it in the past but found it very uncomfortable. It caused irritation and then by the time the irritation started to go away the hair was starting to grow back and it itched terribly. I am a physician assistant and I do PAP tests on women every day. I am always surprized at the number of women who shave 'down there' and they come in every age group. I have asked some if they found it uncomfortable and they deny it. They say they prefer it. My daughter is 16 and she shaves and says it doesn't bother her. I suppose it is personal preference. Although, I really don't know why anyone would want to, unless it was a preference of thier lover.

Yes I do shave down there. I started shaving there when I was 20 years old. I mostly do it because I feel cleaner when i am shaved. The other reason i shave down there is because my boyfriend likes it. I do it mostly for myself though. it is a personal choice for every woman. Not everyone shaves down there. If you are thinking about it or are just curious about it you should look up how to online.

Yes I do shave all of it and I started when I was 17. I couldn't stand my underwear pulling the hair and I also got sick of it being itchy. Haven't had to worry about either of those things since, well, only when it starts growing back but then I just shave again.

I've shaved down there since I've been 11. I leave a small amount on my pelvic area and sometimes shape it as a heart. My BF likes it and it feels nice too. The link below has men's and women's experiences with shaving the private area.

I used to, when I was maybe 13 onward. But I only ever totally shaved a few times. I just trimmed after that. But I'm really lazy, and honestly don't care, so I stopped doing it a few years ago. And actually, it was my mother who kept bugging me to do it because it's "more hygienic," which isn't true. I'd say, don't do it unless you have a reason to (bikini, etc.), or if it's bothering you.

I understand that this is a women's section, but from a male's POV, I prefer it when I see it. You don't have to completely shave but trim would be good. Too long inflames nostrils. Also longer pubic hair is uncomfortable for both sexes. I shave mine for my partner's pleasure and my own. It is a lot less hassle, once you get into the habbit of it.

I dont shave down there very often, I usually just keep it trimed. I started to shave at about 14. But since I had kids, its a waste of time anymore.
