What makes you view someone as "professional" as viewed in workplace? Would you say such attributes making someone seem professional can be learned at later stage in life?

There are two difference aspects to professionalism. The first is the expertise that a person carries and this is typically recognized with one or another designation or accreditations (engineer, doctor, lawyer) which requires that they prove a certain level of capability in that field.

Second is behaviour. professional behaviour is being able to deal with people in a proper businesslike manner and avoiding getting into emotional arguments but rather relying on facts in case of diosagreements. Avoiding going down the "low" path even when another person does so. Treating others with respect and providing fair value for your compensation. Honety, integrity, etc. all play an important part. These are just examples, but I suspect that you get the drift. Most professions will have a set of criteria for ethical behaviour. Here are a couple of examples:

The behavioural aspect can be learned any time in life, but the earlier the better, Such professional behaviour benefits people in all aspects of life both in the workplace and elsewhere.

yes, its a lot of things. The way you dress, the way you talk, the way you deal with others, the way you have the ability to help others and make them to do the same as you, that's when you are a real professional, when you can teach others, to teach others.
