Whenever I sing a lot, I always get a soar throat. I am doing a musical soon, so I would like to know how to prevent this so that my voice will not be so strained... Any tips?

Thanks in advance!

If you're getting a sore throat then you aren't singing properly. Sing from your diaphragm (or as kristin Chenoweth says... "Your Whoo hoo."). With the right breath control you shouldn't get strained.

Keep well hydrated and ALWAYS warm up. Higher scales and lower scales.

Don't drink cold water before a performance, room temperature water is fine.

Do not drink or consume any diary the day of a performance.

Try to stay away from sugar - But if you're throat is really dry and water isn't doing the trick try a throat lozenged or cough drop (fruit breezers rock). A little sugar can sometimes make enough mucous on your throat to actually protect it from damage. Give it a try one day while you're practicing.

DO NOT drink tea with lemon. It will dry your throat out really bad!

The day of the performance save your energy for the big show don't "waste yourself" in rehearsals.

Don't eat for 2 hours before the show. Your voice won't be 100% if your body is focusing on digesting.

If your theatre is dusty try "entertainers secret" throat spray to help keep your voice hydrated.

Basically anything good for your body is good for your voice. Keep your body healthy and you'll have a healthy voice!

Gargling with warm salty water or mouthwash can reduce the pain and inconvenience. More details and home remedies available at http://ailments.in/sorethroat.html

don't let it fly so much....

sore throats can be soothed in a bunch of ways...sucking on cough drops...spray...keep your nose moist (with saline spray), don't talk much on the days you sing. try herb teas...don't dehydrate yourself....stay away from smoke, allergens...
