Well, I guess I should have included ( I didnt think i Had to) But that I am not doing this because of any other reason than a serious medical issue, a genetic disorder that will severly damage the baby and possibly myself, and may even cause death.

Obviously people need to learn how to READ and see that the only reason this poor girl is considering this option is

"I am not doing this because of any other reason than a serious medical issue, a genetic disorder that will severely damage the baby and possibly myself, and may even cause death."

And really the step by step scare tactics and gruesome descriptions are not needed, yes it does hurt emotionally and it is something that will stay with you.
There is NO REASON you need to be awake or witness anything, it may cost more money but if the termination is for a medical deformity or maternal endangerment many insurances cover that cost......research clinics that offer sedation and anesthesia this way you will be sleeping and not have to witness anything. There will be sever cramping afterward but it is like a bad period.

I am so sorry that you are forced to make this decision, make sure you have a strong support system around you afterward and take care of yourself. In time you WILL be able to have more children and carry to term, women do it all the time.

I think that you should have it done in a hospital and be put to sleep. From what i have been told it hurts very much when you have it done at a clinic. Oh and ibuprfen sucks. For that kind of painful procedure i think that you'll need some stronger pain meds. Almost everyone else that has answered this question has said that abortion is killing a baby, don't listen to them. The baby isn't even a baby its just a ball of cells. So really it is your decision and no one elses. But do remember that there are so many loving women and families out there that would do anything for a baby. With that being said, i think that you should consider adoption.

People told me it would be like a "bee-sting." Couldn't be further from the truth, from my perspective, but clearly it's not that bad for everyone. I have a friend from Germany who was anesthetized for it, and she thought it was nothing, but I don't believe they do that anywhere in the US. They didn't for me. I was also pretty miserable about it afterward. For a long time. Yet I don't actually regret it, it was the right choice under the circumstances, even if it wasn't a 'good' choice. Best of luck to you. Do be sure to have a follow up after. Infections are apparently common. I developed one. Edit to add: I just realized you said you were going alone. If there is anyone who can go with you, I would take advantage of that. Just someone to drive you. I went into shock (literally - insanely low blood pressure) afterward, and I simply could not have driven. Not to mention the emotional toll of being accosted by strangers, and the inevitable second thoughts after the mandatory ultrasound.

Ok, there are a lot of people on here who are totally against abortion, thats fine, you have a right to your own opinion, but this woman has a question that doesnt require your snarky comments, the question was not asking your opinon on abortion. Now to the poor woman's answer. From what I know, they sedate you, you are not completly out, but you are sedated. There is a counciller and or a friend or partner in the room with you for moral support, as this is a very tough time for you. The procedure is likely going to be uncomfortable, but doesnt last long. And I think that afterwards, they will give you something for the pain as well. I am sorry that you are going through this. And I am sorry that people who don't know what your situation is, are bashing you on here. I hope you find the answer you are looking for.

Do you people NOT read the whole story? the poor woman said she HAS to do this, can you show a little sympathy/respect now please?

Q | Will the surgical abortion hurt?
A | A surgical abortion can cause cramping, similar to cramping experienced with a menstrual period. Pain medication is given before and after the procedure. Remember the procedure lasts 5-10 minutes, depending on how far you are into the pregnancy. With assistance of the surgical assistant and the pain medication, you will be able to get through the procedure with minimal difficulty.
Q | Will I be able to get pregnant after my abortion?
A | There is no evidence of fertility or childbearing problems after on abortion. Having an abortion does not interfere with your ability to have children in the future.

Keep in mind that having an abortion poses health risks down the road.... more chance of breast cancer and other things... Make sure it's what you want to do - it is a very serious thing that has physical and mental repercussions that you will have to live with the rest of your life. I'm not saying "don't do it" - I'm saying "give it very careful thought".

I generally am against it - but lots of people have a fear of parents and going through a pregancy to give it up for adoption. There are many childless people out there who would want a baby so badly.... it's a shame that our society doesn't promote that more often.

they give you a local. then it's like a really bad pap smear. lie very still. if you squirm around, there is a chance they can tear your uterine lining. it most definately does NOT hurt like childbirth. But what they wont tell you is the emotional pain and scarring that occurs. Guilt, grief, regret, shame, embarrassment. Make sure you (or whoever) make the right decision, because you have to live with all that for the rest of your life. good luck whatever you choose......

Not as much as giving birth. Its just bad cramps you will be a little out of it.
I answered you last night and came back today to check things out. As usual I am horrified by the conceit of those who would scare you, or assume you should breed to satisfy those who can't, or threaten you with breast cancer. I hope you ignored them. It truly isn't so bad, its different for everyone, but so is any medical procedure, you can get through it, especially as you know its the best decision for you. And you matter, you aren't just some vessel for the delivery of babies. No doctor or nurse I have ever met would be unsympathetic, if they were they wouldn't be taking their lives in their own hands by doing it. The ones who scream the loudest about murderers don't mind killing abortion providers and their nurses. If you have pain tell your doctor and he will give you something for it, just make sure you tell them. I am really sorry if the compulsory pregnancy bunch upset you. No one deserves that.

Yes they gave me local anesthetic and i felt everything i was crying the hole way though it. And after you hurt really bad, not as bad as giving birth but bad and they don't give you anything for the pain. I layed on my couch for 3 days because it hurt so bad.

Yes. I had never had an abortion but have had to have D&Cs after miscarriages and the further along you are the more they hurt.
