It's the in dash type. Keys are lost. So can the cylinder and switch be removed as a unit? or could I remove the pigtail and connect it into the new one? I know normally the key must me in ACC. to remove the cylinder. Any help would be appreciated, I need to get this running ASAP.

I can't just disconnect the harness and connect it to a loose (not in dash)switch/tumbler assembly temporarily?

thats only on in column locks you dont need the key to take it out worse case you need to brake the metal ring holding into the dash if it wont unscrew unplug it then unscrew it depending on the brand of switch you put in it you may need the key to align it but you can take it out with out the key, if you damage the outside ring dont worry it comes with new switch

The lock cylinder is parts store available ,As for the ignition switch if it is not on top of the column with a rod going down to it ,it would then be linked or mated to the lock cylinder making it possibly a dealer part . Check for compatible part with other car model and years .

You would have to buy a new cylinder for the new switch also. But you can still have just one key to start if you go to the locksmith, they can cut the key to fit the doors on one side, then cut the other side for the ignition. Ive done this on 2 of the 1979 trucks in the past. Also, a locksmith can get the cylinder out of the switch without the key, and can then make a key to fit it. This wouldn't cost too much if you take it to him.

Autozone has a web site with several methods of removing them including drilling. I tried to include the web site but there was a question mark in the site address and Yahoo kept wrapping as if I were starting a new sentence. If you search " ford ignition cylinder removal" And you get the same sites I did, it will be number 3. down the list... Hope this helps and you are able to find it...Good Luck...

don't drill that out. their is a tool for that . ask at auto parts store . you could cause your self some serious trouble drilling that out. you could drill out the whole middle and it still wouldn't come out.
this is not an ez job . i know how to do it and it still is not an ez job.. i would spend the 100.00 us dollars to have a lock smith come to your house and change that for you really worth the doe!!!

well if its in the dash you might get lucky to be able to just un screw it and pop it out.. but if it controlls a steering lock then your going to have to drill it out.. wich is ALOT harder then it sounds... i spent more then 2 hours and 5 drill bits to drill my ignition out in my mustang ;)

You can jump the wires going to the ignition switch to get it started.

Yes you can.
You'll have to pull steering wheel off to get to it, but it really isn't
a hard fix.

I think you're going to have to bypass it or drill it out.
