Well, it can be for many reasons, u might not have configured your USB port, check in My PC properties, hardware, device manager and look for the universal serial bus there, it must be one single icon, if it has more and one of them has an error sign, means it is not installed properly, double clik on it and go to the update hardware (hope u have XP) if it's not that it could be allot of stuff!

De back usb ports usually have a better voltage if it is a power problem. If ya bought yer usb drive from e-bay, there were a lot of fake drives being sold last year. Like a 1 GB drive was really a 500 MB drive someone hacked, but when ya went over 500 MB it would crash and all was lost. Got burned by 2 of those.

Sometimes simply rebooting your computer will do the trick. If you have a USB hub you should check to make sure it's still plugged in (the USB cable on the hub and the computer and both ends of the power cord). Sometimes you can download updated USB drivers for your computer/motherboard and install those. Good Luck.

If it's the flash drive, the pins inside the flash drive might be bent. Try wiggling around the flash drive, or get a flash drive that doesn't use a standard USB-on-header design plug. Sony's Micro Vault Tiny series is virtually immune to the problem
