At this stage, it's fine. Just ventilate the area well. I had to have a tooth extraction for an abcessed tooth when I was 30 weeks so had anesthesia, painkillers, everything, no one blinked an eye. Everything is fully formed, baby is just growing bigger.

Everyone is so paranoid nowadays about what to take during pregnancy, but honestly if a fetus is so fragile that a whiff of Easy-Off oven cleaner or a single Tylenol could kill it, then we'd all be dead. For those of us born in the 50's 60's & 70's our moms drank and smoke (and worse) through pregnancy and we're all fine. The most important time is the first trimester, often before women even know they are pregnant.

Listen to your doctor in this regard. If it makes you feel better to dye your hair then do it.

Is it safe to dye my hair while pregnant?
There are conflicting reports about the safety of hair dye during pregnancy: Several studies found no ill effects on pregnant rodents given 100 times the typical human dose of these products, whereas British researchers reported chromosome damage among women who dyed their hair. Although this study was not conducted on pregnant women, this finding suggests that there may be some risk to coloring your hair while pregnant.

As a precaution, some physicians advise you to avoid hair color until after your first trimester (the period when your baby's vital organs, head, body and limbs form). Colorants made from vegetable dyes such as henna are preferable to the chemical dyes used in permanent and semi-permanent formulas. Recent studies indicate that hair dyes contain relatively high levels of bio-available lead acetate that can be harmful to the fetus, particularly the nervous system and brain. Check the product label and avoid lead based hair products.

To be honest I never heard of the whole dying your hair during pregnancy until I used this website. I highlighted by hair about 3-4 times during my pregnancy and my baby is just fine. If your doctor is okay with it then it's probably just fine.

There is no harm in dying your hair, just make sure you do it in a well ventilated area so you won't breathe in too much of the fumes. The only reason that it's advised against is because the pre-natal vitamins you take can leave a film on your hair, causing it to not take as well.

I've had lots of girlfriends who have dyed their hair while pregnant, but they've waited until well into the second trimester or even the third. Congrats on the baby!

It doesn't do anything to your unborn child. It's an old wives tale. There is some serious **** out there. Im 40 weeks 3 days and I've dyed my hair afew times, even been to the hairdresser to do it once.

As long as your Doctor thinks it will be allright to dye your hair, I see no reason why you should not do it. However, with your body chemistry being different due to the pregnancy, hair coloring and permanents may not "take". I have a friend who is a cosmotologist and she deals with this question many times.

This is true, my dr thought it was ok too. Apparently the chemicals are a lot less harsh than they used to be, also if you get highlights it doesnt touch your scalp. Either way theres nothing proving it to be bad. Just make sure the slaon on wherever you go is well venitalted.

I remember that one - I think it was that you shouldn't use hair dye that contained peroxide because it can get into your bloodstream or something, but otherwise they're ok. Whether that's true or not is a different story though.
