The product that Marfanman is suggesting is called Wesley's Bleche White.
It is manufactured as a tire product but can work for other automotive applications. BE CAREFUL with it! It's a strong cleaner & make sure you rinse it all off.
You can Google it to find out more about it & it's precautions,

My white-topped Dodge Challenger used to respond well to a little bit of "Barkeeper's Friend" and a fairly stiff-bristled brush. If you can't find Barkeeper's Friend, try any other cleaner that'sade for kitchen sink cleaning (not for Stainless Steel, but usable on porcelain). Make sure you wash the soap scum off really well, or you'll leave streaks all over the car body!

best thing i have used is bleach white{a tire whitewall cleaner]you can find it at your parts store. spray it on and rub it in and scrub with a medium bristle brush it takes a little elbow grease but i have detailed cars for years, and since it is non abrasive it wont ruin the fibers that the top are made of

Sounds silly but fabric softener(dryer) sheets work to clean white leather tennis shoes, so I would imagine it would work on a convertable top too.

Bon Ami ( like bar keepers friend...) find it in the detergent/kitchen soap isle, next to the Comet (but it's NOT Comet)..
