"hot" means the person is sexy or very handsome or beautiful. "cute": when a girl says it about a guy means that she thinks his personality is great or that he's good looking in a more "friendly" kind of way. if a guy calls a girl cute he thinks she's pretty.

When you say someone is cute, you'd like to flirt with them. When you say somone is hot, you'd like to flirt and take things a little further (like making out) with them.
