Yes, I do agree very much. Today, all the world is interested in is science and technology. I must admit that I am to, but besides the point; people have gotten lost in technology, and they are becoming less and less aware of the past and the great stories, and art that it held. Bye!!!

Yes it is possible. I got my degrees while I was enlisted in the Navy. I got a Masters degree in Theology. I did not go officer, I knew many other sailors who also had degrees and did not go officer either. I did not want to take such a cut in pay, by taking a commission, and I sometimes counseled officers. their world is an entirely different environment. Officers in the Navy tend to stress too many things. Enlisted life is much easier. Do your job, and don't get in trouble, and as an enlisted sailor you can stay in uniform until they give you a pension. Officers do not have that option. they must compete with each other all of the time. Every year only a some portion make advancement, if you are not picked up for advancement after three years an officer gets booted. As for the pay, don't get tricked into looking only at base pay. My base pay was never more than a third of my paycheck. usually more like a quarter of my paycheck. All of the other pays and allowances add up, plus SRB is huge! Officers simply can not get all of the extra pays that enlisted get. I wish you luck.

Art is accessible to only a very few individuals anyway. Most make the error, as Goethe asserted to Eckermann, of never thinking or desiring to proceed through the anterooms (like the propylaea of a temple), past all the hubbub about art, to Art itself. Rest assured that Art's position in the world, thankfully, has always existed safely apart from the crush and buzz of tinkerers.

I think artists are not treated as well in north America as in other parts of the world.
Independent thought and alternative lifestyle are viewed as 'scary' by the US government for example.
The priority and social drive do seem to lay with mass production and the war technologies.
You can argue that there is an art to the creative processes these new directions stem from, but it's not art for arts sake.
So I have to say while art is still an escape by those who are receptive to it, the mainstream culture is not centered around the Utopian ideal of traditional art as central to thriving culture.

Beyond everything else, the materialism of the world, lies personal choice. Art is that thing that is beyond all the mundane that lets our personal choice impact our lives.
Think of it this way....in today's world, we have supercomputers that can do incredible amounts of work in the blink of an eye. What does a person spend the most time doing, though? Modding his cabinet to look like Spiderman.
Art has no place? Yeah, right.

not at all. sometimes it is the seemingly crazy ideas that artists have that then inspire scientists to explore those fields. the book "20,000 leagues under the sea" inspired deep-see exploration, while other books and works of art have inspired people to do all sorts of things - including journeying into space and to the moon.
creative thinkers are often those who find new ways to look at the world, and they offer new perspectives on things. art will never lack importance, as imagination gives a new perspective on that which we can see.
when any one area is dominant, there is a resistance to progress. what is best is when balance between the creative and practical is achieved.

No! Science and technology do not negate the world of art. Art can have many applications in a sci-tech environment by working in tandem with such disciplines and enhancing their innovations through the use of artistic design. Art itself is evolving and using these scientific/technological advances to define the use of new tools being made available to the artist as a result of new vistas being opened up in other areas. Art will forever continue to redefine itself in accordance with the age it finds itself in. Artists now "paint" with neon signs and Corel draw programs on their computers. There was no such thing as environmental art installations in the Renaissance, were there? This is strictly a 20th-21st century phenomenon. No, artists will redact and adjust and re-invent themselves in the ways of their expression and they will increasingly be reaching for mediums other than just the paint and canvas to create! It's a field as wide as one's imagination! It's called artistic license! Ever challenging the viewer as we expand into the future! Science and technology serve specific functions but art reserves the right to entertain for the sake of entertainment. We'll always need the world of art as safe haven and retreat to recharge our souls! Imagination will never go out of style! Perchance to dream........

Science and tech would be less effective without art (at least from a sales perpective). Some artistic inspirations include the ipod, google/ebay/yahoo logos, nissan overhaul, and lockheed martin's joint strike fighter.. while those lacking include: bmw, sears tower, Boeing X-32, etc..

Art is eternal.
And in any science, after pursuing that feild to it's inner depths, you find art.
and on the outer stage, where the sciences combine to give us this world. They do so in order and with beauty, and this too is art.
Art is eternal and our world.
If the mind says art has no place, then this is irony and art. for its body, mind and all its faculties are all cosmic works of art. just look down at your fingers and you will see.. without a doubt.
:)
art is eternal

No. with respect though i saw this thing on the public broadcasting station and it was a robot machine that shot out tin balls that hit different instruments to play this magical work of art. I am acoustic guitar player so you know it had to be impressive. I only wish you could have seen it would have blown your mind.
Just hope it dont take over!
