Two things...Pledge makes a wax remover/cleaner for hardwood floors..and clear ammonia..First, wash the floor with one cup of clear ammonia and good hot water...let dry, if there is still a haze of white wax in area's...go over it again, with a scrubbing sponge pad.
Once you have the white wax residue off the floor...then wash with the pledge cleaner...let dry completely or over night.
Last step...Wax floor with Pledge One Step Wax..for hardwood floors...This wax is self cleaning after that you don't have to wash the floor again before using the wax...but has a strong smell so open the windows till dried. This wax has saved many floors that people were ready to strip and sand, it is not slippery and is easy to maintain without the need of more washing or buffing.
It is not cheap and maybe harder to find depending on the area you live in...average cost is 8.99 a bottle..floor washer is usually 10.99 a bottle...a little does go a long way. Hope that helps..Take Care

The best way to remove old floor finish is with a solution known as stripper. Go to your local janitorial supply store and purchase some stripper. Mix according to directions, mop on, might need to scrub some areas, to do this you need a scrubbing pad on a long handle. Be very careful when you have the stripper on the floor, since it becomes extremely slippery. Mop up.can even use a wet/dry vacuum to remove solution, keep mopping the floor with plain water to neutralize and remove all of the stripper.

my mom and me used to just scrub ours with warm water and detergent. Then wash them with clear warm water and dry immediately - then wax again.
Nowadays there are several floor strippers you can buy at your local hardware store or walmart or department store.
Also depends if the floor is wood or vinyl or laminate. For vinyl or laminate, I just do the above.... for wood, you may want to rent a stripping machine if you want to take off the finish only, but if it is just for removing wax, I would simply scrub it off with a wax remover product.

I additionally made the blunders of applying mop n glow on my bamboo flooring to maintain money. I paid the fee of wax strengthen of over six years. I in simple terms finished removing the wax strengthen by using applying denatured alcohol and a rag. that's rather tedious, however the flooring appear as if new. solid success..

Have you tried amonia yet? You might just want it to sit there for a while before you mop it off. You may need to just break down and scrub it with a brush in the end.
