Ok, by looking at your pictures I would say it is installed properly and just needs to be formated. If I am reading it correctly it is showing up as disk 1 149.05GB unallocated. That would make it a 150GB hard drive.

I don't normally use HP and I hate working on them because of all the unnecessary BS on them so I could reading it wrong.

Try restarting your computer with your external drive still connected and turned on. Then press the Windows Key and E at the same time. The Windows Key is located at the bottom left of your keyboard between Ctrl and Alt. This will pop up the explorer Window. It should show icons in boxed groupings. The top one should be Shared Documents and My Documents. Below that will be a list of Hard Disks. Your new Drive according to your picture should be Drive F. Right click it and select Format and then choose FAT32 since you are using ME, NTFS is for Windows 2000 and XP.

After it is formated it should work just fine. Do Not use the HP Disk Management.

External HD not being seen.

My external is a Western Digital but I had the same problem after about two weeks. My problem was in the USB Hub plus a quirk of my Dell software.

First, connect the HD to a different computer, preferably a desktop, and see if it can be read there.

Second, make sure your USB Hub has its own power supply. If not, it may have damaged the root hub. Internal root hubs on laptops cannot handle the power requirements of ext HDs.

Third, I use a Dell Inspiron 600M. It will not boot if either the external HD or the HP AIO Printer are turned on. I have to turn these peripherals on after booting.

I hope this helped.

Go to MY computer, click on the drive, and then format it.
Until you format the drive, you can not use it.

I believe you're going to have to format that disc - it depends on the the external hard drive. I believe I formatted mine. Try going to Administrative / Disk management and see if you can find it there - you may see it as a usb device or something - I believe if you format it - it will be visible.

You can try going to www.virtualdr.com. Just type in the problem and they'll have an answer for you.
