A good friend of mine is about to turn 40, and I want to do something that will make it special occasion. I have some ideas already, but wanted to know if you have any, or was there something you did for a 40 year birthday party that was good. Thanks

stage a mock funeral for a birthday theme. If your friend would find that funny and not morbid of course.
40 is over the hill, right? Or is it 50?

Go skydiving, get a tattoo or piercing, go do some karaoke and sing your hearts out, get messily drunk and stumble home.... just be wild 'cause you're over the hill after 40 ;)
If you want to throw a party, a good theme would be '1987'. Get some music, fashion, etc. from when the b'day boy/girl was half his/her current age.

Let's do something daring.
White water rafting? Scaling a cliff face? Walking the pacific trail for a week? Knocking around Yosemite? (getting to the top of Half Dome is a MAJOR headrush!)

get him some life or disability insurance, cause after 40 u just never know.. i knew a guy who turned 40 and suffered a heart attack at the each of 42,
my cousin was 44 or 45 when he was diagnosed with diabetes.

For my friends mom's 40th she got everyone to come dressed up like they looked in their high school yearbook photo. The dorkier the better of course and bringing a copy of your yearbook photo was a must.

who gets to be 40 thought we all hit 29 and hold. seriosly i would have to know your friend. does he/she like surprises are they a thrill seeker or do they even want to acknowledge that it their birthday. are you intimate with this person that could throw a whole lot of things i could say, but i wont you can use your own imagination for that one.
a friend go sky diving go kayaking go to yur airport and hire a little plane and go for a plane ride for and hour. go on a fishing or camping excursion.
