Did your dr. give you an ultrasound between 34 and 40 weeks??? i have heard that it is a very needed medical procedure to see how the baby is growing. but last time when i went to my dr, he didn't even mention anything about an ultrasound. I am 35 weeks along.

My doctor gave an ultrasound every time I went
he could be checking position, weight of baby if your tiny
Doctors who are proactive like to give ultrasounds more to ensure the health of the baby.My doctor found out my son wrapped his cord around twice so he was aware when he was born.

I would imagine it depends on your doctor and your insurance. My insurance (military insurance) only covers one ultrasound unless the pregnancy is high risk. They do it around 20 weeks just to confirm how far along you are. I have heard from friends who have other insurance that this is standard, and most people I know have only had one ultrasound per pregnancy.
My doctor is of the school of thought that the less ultrasounds the better. He told me that even though they have no proof that ultrasounds are harmful, there is also no indisputable proof that they are not. As much fun as it is to see your baby on the screen, he recommends playing it safe and having as few ultrasounds as possible.

You must be fine otherwise you would of had one at 35 or so weeks they do only ultrasound you if you are high risk as i am and i have been having them every week from 35 weeks but thankfully the baby is doing just fine so dont worry you to will be just fine.

I had preeclampsia twice, so I ended up having to do lots of biophyscial profiles (ultrasound) and non-stress tests each time. If it weren't for the high blood pressure, though, I would have had a single ultrasound in each pregnancy, at around 20 weeks.
There are lots of ways for your doctor to assess the size and condition of your baby, and not all doctors do late term ultrasounds.
That doesn't mean you're not getting good care.
But if you're worried, you should definitely be talking to your doc. That's what he or she is there for!

I had one @ 34 weeks with my first but my records were unavailable from earlier. My second child only had the standard 20 week one. Are you high risk. Maybe your doctor wants to check growth for some reason. Are your measurements not adding up? Have you not had one yet?

I thought the same thing I will be 37 weeks on Sunday and my dr hasn't said anything either so I assume maybe it is only medically necessary if you are at high risk for pre-eclampsia, low birth weight, too much/too little amniotic fluid etc...With my first one I got tons of them because it was a high risk pregnancy, with this one, I haven't had one since I was 20 weeks pregnant!

At my 20 week ultrasound they told me I could be at risk for preeclampsia, so they said at 35 weeks I will get another untrasound to see, because everything wasnt big enough yet.

They usually don't unless your pregnancy is high risk. They can estimate the weight of the baby by feeling from the outside. This is usually only off by about a pound.
